Los Angelinos who lost everything in the deadly fires are still being prevented from visiting their homes without a police escort, new video shows - despite the city's mayor claiming last week that rebuilding could begin 'right away'.
Dave Harvilicz, 50, a resident from the ritzy Pacific Palisades enclave which was among the worst-hit areas, filmed himself speaking with US Army personnel who were still blocking access to his street on Saturday.
According to official interactive maps, the ongoing Palisades Fire has likely obliterated the California businessman's $4 million four-bedroom, three-bath property to the ground - but he's still not even been granted access to see it.
'I haven't been able to get to the house since January 7th. It's January 25th. President Trump said we could go now - what's going on?' Harvilicz asked the US Army troop in a video he shared on X.
'I'm not too sure sir,' the soldier replied. 'Unfortunately with us we play by ear. With LAPD, they talk to our command and then our command tells us what LAPD says.'
Harvilicz pushed for more answers in the video, prompting the soldier to tell him he needs a police escort - a process which could take several hours.
It followed Friday night assurances from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass that residents would be able to start rebuilding 'right away' during a press conference where President Donald Trump scolded her about bureaucracy.
When pressed by residents about when they could start rebuilding, she said the city was doing 'everything we can – slashing regulations, expediting everything, so that people can begin the process right away', according to the New York Post.

Going to Vegas this weekend and I will stop in the Bellagio Sports Book to see if I can get odds on this. I am willing tobet $1000 that not a single nail will be pounded in for at least 3 years. Looking for odds.
It's a federal disaster area. The FEMA onsite director should tell the army and the LAPD what to do, not the other way around.

Pres Trump should go back ,and on camera, confront her and say “So you lied to me! And not just to me, but to everyone who is anxious to get rebuilding too!”
I actually don’t think Bass lied, I think she’s just clueless, she as clueless about this as she is on whether cutting $17 million from the FDLA would have affected things.
She is a hack appointed to her office because of the 1 party system in LA, and she hasn’t the first clue what’s going on or what it takes to be mayor.
She probably just assumes that people can rebuild immediately because she doesn’t know any of the laws on the subject.

She was too stupid to realize that being Mayor of a large city actually meant being responsible for things like water, fire, police, etc...
We knew she was lying when she said it, and, of course, so did the President. He called her on it, and all she could do is smile. And lie.
In the exchange between Bass and Trump last week, Bass said that LA would issue permits to those homes were burned down. She said once they have a permit, the could visit their home. When asked how long, she said I’m not sure, but it could be 18 months. Trump was visibly shocked and told her to forget the permit process and let the people go in and do what needs to be done. He said they could do it in less than a week.
The lesson here is: Bass wants control and assumes that people will then be beholden to her for getting to see their property. Trump was saying let the property owners do what they want with their property.
If you don't know, you admit you don't know but will look into it, get the right information, clear the deck, whatever. Does she or does she not have the power to instruct the police to let people start rebuilding. She - and others like her - cannot thing on their own. They use and rely on rules and regulations, and that way they do not have to exercise brain cells in order to employ common sense to get things done.
