Tea consumption offers protective effects on mortality among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), according to a study.
Jin Li, Ph.D. and colleagues examined the long-term impact of tea consumption among 17,575 patients with CKD from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 1999 to 2018.
The researchers found there were 5,835 deaths during follow-up, including 1,823 cardiovascular-related deaths.
Compared with never drinking tea, consuming up to four cups of tea per day was significantly associated with lower all-cause mortality among patients with CKD stage 1 to 2 (hazard ratio, 0.89; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.80 to 0.99; P = 0.04), after adjustment for confounding variables; the association between tea consumption and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality was not significant (hazard ratio, 0.87; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.72 to 1.05; P = 0.15).
There was a dose-response effect observed, with the risks for all-cause mortality mitigated by consuming up to three to five cups of tea per day, especially in early CKD stages. In CKD stage 1 to 2, an intake of one cup per day higher of oxidized tea was associated with a 10 percent lower risk for all-cause mortality (hazard ratio, 0.90; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.82 to 0.99; P = 0.03).
Replacing one cup of green tea with one cup of oxidized tea was associated with a significantly lower risk for all-cause and CVD mortality (hazard ratios [95 percent confidence intervals], 0.92 [0.86 to 0.98; P = 0.01] and 0.89 [0.80 to 1.00; P < 0.05], respectively) in those with CKD stage 1 to 2.
"We suggest that CKD patients limit their daily intake of tea to no more than four cups, and choose appropriate varieties and flavors, such as oxidized tea and sugar-free tea," the authors write.

Probably the headline writer is so indoctrinated that he/she/it can't help themselves.
ah, yep- i think that was it=- the oxalates in tea- I am what’s called a ‘stoner’ too- passed 60 plus stones one year, 40 or so the next- lots of ‘sand’ too- (stone material that didn’t form into an actual stone)- Had 1 large stoen that got stuck and wouldn’t budge- had to have a cath for 2 stinkin months- and wow when they removed it it was liek they ripped out barbed wire- stone material had formed on the outside of the cath- all the stones is what wrecked my kidneys too- I’m 34 gfr- goes down to 29 at times of dehydration like with the last flu-
(I found out salt in snack foods was the cause of my stones- since I’ve quit salty snacks, and taking alopurinol, i don’t hardly pass stones anymore- unless i break down and have a small bag of chips with a sandwich- I’ll pass a stone days afterwards if i do- everytime-
Someone mentioned taking soemthing if you wanna eat oxalate rich foods liek spinach, which i love- beet greens too! can’t remember what it is now- suppsoed to offset the accumulation of oxalates i guess? Or prevent it? can’t remember now-
nope- it’s like being the ugly stepsister to black tea-
There is no opinion about the old cinnamon tea?
:: suppsoed to offset the accumulation of oxalates i guess? Or prevent it? can’t remember now- ::
I use two probiotics.
One is branded “Kidney C.O.P.” and consists of Citric Acid, Phytin and banana stem.
The other is Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
Thanks Ill check that cop one out- hadnt heard of it before-
Correct, black tea is oxidized.
Quite diverse and inclusive, tea-wise, eh?
I don’t like the taste of the green but love the black. It was my perfect solution because the black is the stronger taste.
I’ll know for sure next Monday, but that’s what he said on our first visit.
uggh, i pray not- hope they can save it- Hard to know what to even say in situation like yours- Sorry to hear you have to face that!
