Supreme Court to decide if families can opt out of reading LGBTQ books in the classroom

The Supreme Court will decide if Maryland parents, who object to LGBTQ books in the classroom, have a constitutional right to opt their children out of classes that conflict with their family’s faith.

Parents in Montgomery County, Maryland are claiming their children’s schools are violating their religious freedom by not allowing them to opt out of lessons that use books featuring LGBTQ story lines. On Friday, the Supreme Court made the decision they will weigh in on the matter.

According to court papers, the district provided the books to teachers and expected them to be incorporated into the classroom by displaying them on shelves, using them for read-aloud, and recommending them to students. When the policy was first introduced, parents were given the option to opt out their children, according to a previous Fox News article, but the legal filing suggests this option was taken away when so many students were being opted out, that it caused high absenteeism.

"As alleged in the amended complaint, on March 22, 2023, the Board publicly reiterated that when a teacher chose to use one of the Storybooks in their classrooms, ‘a notification goes out to parents about the book,' and, if a caregiver chooses to opt their child out, the teacher would ‘find a substitute text for that student that supports’ the same language arts standards and objectives," the documents states.

"The following day, without explanation, the Board announced in a complete about-face that a notice and opt-out option would no longer be permitted," it continues. "Although the revised policy became effective immediately, old requests for accommodations were grandfathered in through the end of the 2022–2023 academic year, making the current 2023–2024 academic year the first year for which no students or their parents are provided notice or the opportunity to opt out...

I cannot help but wonder just how many of the complainers have enough money to opt out of the public schools, but choose to instead dump their kids into them, because they’re ‘free’ and allow a better ‘lifestyle’ for the parents. I suspect most of the people that are now complaining.

But the REAL VICTIMS are the children of people who actually cannot afford to pull their kids out, but they don’t have the means and often don’t know how to go about it.

This should be an absolutely not 9-0 decision

I read the average family doesn’t have, If-I-recall, $500 in savings. My renters, with one exception, are paycheck-to-paycheck. Any bump in their life and the rent moves out two to three weeks.

This is all the consequence of “gay marriage” becoming the law of the land.

True regarding renters, which is why I pointed out that they’re the real victims. But the people who show up to complain, and then have the money to file lawsuits, usually have quite a bit of money, or at least can have quite a bit of money (by living cheaper), if they care about their kids. I know that’s the case for the people that I work with (who, nearly all, don’t have to dump their kids in public schools, but still do just that).

The answer is either one for Captain Obvious or one for a civil war. Enough of this “publik skool” crap. And CRAP it is.

Public schools should be concentrating on the 3R’s, not this social engineering BS.

Why would a parent think they would have to have the Supreme Court’s permission to opt out from having their kid’s mind twisted and perverted by a public school teacher?

“It’s porn for kids.“

It is also painfully obvious that no one really cares. You can cry to the Supreme Court all you want and look what happens. You can protest at the school board meetings and you get labeled a domestic terrorist while they keep doing the thing you are protesting. Ten families can stand there and protest and they just call the Gestapo on them. They remain smug and unconcerned with what the parents think because they have to get out their queer agenda to the little kids who might otherwise be normal. Until “the district” that provides this crap feels the pain the corruption will continue. This won’t stop. It will have to BE stopped.

We can safely predict this one will go 6-3 our way. Our guys don’t flinch on this stuff. Roberts has always voted against homosexuality.

If they are not allowed to pull their children away from this immoral concept of LGBTQ behavior, then remove them from the school and either home school or get churches involved with a new private school.

This issue reminds me that it would be better if all public schools were turned into charter schools & we make it easy for parents to opt out on objectionable things by switching schools (without having to move or to the private route).

Montgomery County is right in the belly of the beast of what should be the largest layoff in American history. Right now the typical homes there are over 1M each. If Trump & DOGE do their job we could see their values collapse over 50% as the swamp drains.

I hope the Supreme Court doesn’t turn into the Supreme Clowns for this one.
