Trump shuts off access to asylum, plans to send 10,000 troops to border

President Donald Trump is preparing to send around 10,000 troops to the southern border, and Border Patrol agents have been directed to deny entry to asylum seekers because they pass through countries where communicable diseases are present, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection briefing document obtained by The Washington Post.

The order does not list any specific disease, essentially closing the border to anyone attempting to exercise the right to seek humanitarian refuge under U.S. law.

To start, the Defense Department is expected to order at least 1,000 additional U.S. troops to the southern border in what could be the first of several waves of deployments, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the discussion who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The CBP briefing, delivered Tuesday to senior staff at the agency’s headquarters in Washington by newly appointed Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks, instructs U.S. agents to use an extraordinary emergency authority to close the border. The only two Border Patrol officials who can authorize the release of an asylum seeker into the United States with a pending humanitarian claim are Banks and his deputy.

The briefing document is an early glimpse into the real-world application of the fusillade of executive orders Trump issued Monday, and their translation into field guidance for the Border Patrol’s 19,000 agents. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the Trump administration used an emergency public health law to close off asylum access at U.S. borders. This time, Trump officials have not cited a specific disease, instead invoking emergency authorities with the argument that migrants could be carrying any transmissible illness.

The planning document calls for leveraging the...

Some people really have to have run for their life. And they were returned, sometimes.
E.g. Jews running away from Hitler.

So the International community decided a long time ago, that people in such cases have a right to asylum, in the FIRST country they can safely run to.
I support this law, E.g. North Korean, who escapes from the country will be sent to gulag if caught.
Unfortunately, it has been widely abused for a long time, especially under Biden!
So we need to pause, reconsider, and then, maybe, give few (maybe couple of dozens) really persecuted people some refuge.

It's about time the US stops acting like a movie theater where anyone can just walk up and buy a ticket.

You want asylum? Go to the U.S. consolet in your home country and apply for it.

Don't just walk across the border and say "I'm here, someone is trying to kill me, i need food, clothing, shelter and my child is really sick too!'.

P.S. you need a clean bill of health, no criminal record and a valid ID to prove it.

Get bent, Pubbie.

Are you so weak, so much of a little wilting pansy, that you can’t abide an opinion or point of view other than your own? Are you just a small-minded, small-souled, puling pusillanimous poltroon, or can you manage robust debate and discussion with people who might see things a little differently from yourself?

Hmmm?

I noticed the Washington Post left off a very important fact aside from disease (which is real our TB rates are soaring on the border associated with illegals “breaching our borders illegally”)

International law and agreements between nations of which the USA and Mexico are signers say, “ The first nation a migrant (illegal alien) sets foot on applying for refugee status due to fear of death and persecution for his beliefs in his home nation will be the nation that must give refuge to the migrant. That nation is Mexico. The greatest partner we can have is Mexico if Biden was wise. He wanted the influx of illegals to change the demographics of our voting population. (Actually, it was his “advisors” who were really the president for four long years.

Biden could have solved the problem easily. “Per our International treaty we have both signed it is your problem and not ours. They can not cross our border. Have a good day Mexico with 15 million new immigrants that you do not want.” Mexico, would have solved the problem for us.

I think we could have been a bit gracious by subsidizing their plane tickets home to their country of origin.

I would have dearly liked to have impeached Biden for his multiple crimes of not defending our nation as prescribed in our constitution. His financial crimes of selling us out to the Chinese were minor in comparison to his failure to uphold The Constitution that demanded he defend our nation.

He is no longer president. He should be prosecuted for his crimes. Oddly he can not because aside from financial crimes of not great consequence but real crimes, he is not guilty of his greatest crimes of the last four years by reason that he was not mentally competent. I hate and loath Joe Biden. I would vote innocent due to mental incompetence.

My real question is, “What crimes of those around him that made this facade of lies about his reality of mental competence are crimes?” I do not know this answer. I do know that Jill Biden was the top of this charade.

It is a damn shame that William Shakespeare is not around today. He could have wrote “Lady Macbeth II” and Lady Macbeth I is an angel compared to II.

So ... do you know what mission orders these troops have been given? I’m curious. We the People have a right to know.

“As much as I despise him, Clinton was competent in some things.”

He had some good political instincts but his bad personal instincts were stronger. Those bad instincts destroyed his second term and his legacy.

It is important for us humans to remember that we don’t get away with anything. Records are being kept. Debts will have to be paid.

Clinton must have thought - based on previous experience - that he could get away with anything. He didn’t.

Anyone taking bets on when the shooting starts?
A few days ago, they caught two vehicles with thousands of rounds of 7.62x39 in one, and 50 cal in the other east of Phoenix AZ.
The vehicles were occupied by “asylum” seekers as well as Americans.

Have not heard diddly about that since.

International law is really, more less, a suggestion, hardly enforceable.

But people persecuted in their home country have a “right” to ask for asylum in the FIRST! country where it is safe for them to do.
E.G. E. Snowden asked and received asylum in Russia (under this law).
I just read story about some J6 guy who run away from Biden goons and received asylum in Belarus!

On the flip side, the real elected president of Belarus, Swietlana Tsikchanouskaja is now residing as refugee in Lithuania (Her husband and lots of his coworkers are in jail in Belarus), also given this status under this law.

So, like and example, if some opposition politician from Bermuda swims across the ocean to the US, then, by the international law, US must consider, if this guy is really persecuted in Bermuda, and if he proves in court of law, that his is indeed the case, then give him an asylum!

It is really that restrictive!

But Biden make a joke out of this, actually quite reasonable law!

I agree with everything you said but the fact of the matter is the Democrats were importing slave labor & voters. I saw an estimate that illegal aliens have impacted a dozen and a half house seats.

... the nation that must give refuge to the migrant. That nation is Mexico.

For the intercontinental crowd, that nation is Ecuador, where no passport or visa (IIRC) is required when arriving via international flights.

With lots of US taxpayer-supplied foreign aid money channeled to scores of grifting "church" charities and the like (who probably send laundered tithes back to their benefactors, and who also probably have to "purchase" "insurance" from various cartels and syndicates that they coexist with to successfully complete the terms of their human trafficking contracts), the 3rd world foreigners (military assets likely seeded among them) that take advantage of this are shepherded north through Columbia and the Darian Gap of Panama, then on through the rest of Central America and Mexico, and finally to the pot of golden freebies waiting for them after they set foot across the US border.

I suspect the leaders of Ecuador are not just innocent libertarians. They need to be party to a reality check from the new administration.

I grew up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In the 1960’s we had what was then the largest field of land mines between us and Castro’s territory. There was a road (Sherman Avenue) running through the middle of the minefield and it had machine guns and artillery aimed at it.

That worked quite well.
