Standard equipment for me is AWD and four good snow tires.
rear wheel drive and worn tires, don’t even bother trying to take on snow.
My first encounter with black ice was in Germany. I was stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident. While completely stopped, a side wind blew me into a bus stop. I have great respect for black ice on the road.
Men. Even in Minneapolis, there are enough locals who forget how to drive in snow season to season, and enough new drivers to make the first few or heavy snows hazardous driving.
No need to bully southerners or even newly arrived Yankees when neither the roads nor attitudes are designed for driving in snow and ice.

Snowfall records dating back to 1885 were easily shattered in one weekend. From Friday, Jan. 11 through Sunday, Jan.13, anywhere from one to 14 inches of snow fell over Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and San Antonio all the up into the Austin area. My brother in-law from Chicago used to make fun of us until he ended up in a ditch during one of our ice storms.
He gets it now, lol
There was a big snow in 1960 and in 1973. There was a hell of a nasty ice storm around 1992. I was driving home from work and the local radio station announced that there were over 1100 car wrecks and they couldn’t keep up with all of them. The announcer said “Your on your own. Good Luck”.
