Chief Justice Roberts condemns elected officials for intimidating judges

Chief Justice John Roberts condemned elected officials who have intimidated judges and defied court rulings, highlighting them in his year-end report Tuesday as part of what Roberts called “illegitimate activity” that threatens the rule of law.

Roberts did not name any specific person, but he did note a federal district judge “whose decisions in a high-profile case” prompted an elected official to call for her impeachment and sparked a need for bar associations to “come to the defense.”

“Attempts to intimidate judges for their rulings in cases are inappropriate and should be vigorously opposed,” Roberts wrote. “Public officials certainly have a right to criticize the work of the judiciary, but they should be mindful that intemperance in their statements when it comes to judges may prompt dangerous reactions by others.”

In his nearly two-decade tenure as chief justice, Roberts has been focused on the Supreme Court’s image and keeping the court above partisan politics. His comments come as public trust in the court is near record lows and a heightened threat environment has bolstered concerns about judges’ security.

The report does not mention President-elect Trump, but it comes as Republicans are set to take unified control of Washington upon his return to the White House next month. Trump has regularly accused judges overseeing his legal cases of political bias, and during his first presidential term, his criticisms of a judge appointed by former President Obama earned a rare public rebuke from Roberts at the time.

The chief justice’s report went on to criticize elected officials who have openly disregarded federal court rulings, calling them “dangerous suggestions” that should be rejected. It is not clear to whom Roberts was referring, but he...

Biden ignored the Supreme Court ruling on college loan forgiveness.
And a Hawaii judge essentially over-ruled the Supreme Court on some issue.

But, I don’t think this stuff bothered Roberts.

But Trump?? Oh, Roberts is getting the word out that he won’t tolerate any funny business from the incoming Admin!

Impeachment of judges is in the Constitution. It is part of checks and balances and balance of powers.

He wants the judiciary to have unchecked power and not be the subject of criticism. Kinda predictable for a head judge.

Any mention of Schumer threatening violence on the steps of the Supreme Court?

He could have just as easily been referring to Schumer.

You know the only reference I can see to any Republican telling anyone to :ignore the Court” was about the ruling that said Biden thugs could cut up the concertina wire TX was putting up to control access by Illegals out of Mexico.

Biden, Chuck Shumer and the rest of the Democrat clown posse made hundred of direct and indirect threats against the Court
Biden allowed Democrat party storm trooper to harass SC Justices at home despite that being a direct violation of Federal Law

There is ONLY one threat in the US to the Courts. The US Democrat party

If more judges feared God and Moral Law, they would have no need to fear anyone else.

“He was wrong when he suggested this “John Roberts Absurdly Suggests the Supreme Court Has No ‘Political Bias’”

Lower court judges are just as apolitical.

This POS Roberts should look in the mirror for what is causing judges to be ignored and losing respect. His statement many years ago that there are no Republican or Democrat judges was a bold face lie and one that is repeatedly shown to be a lie when one sees how Democrat judges rule, especially those in DC and NY. Instead of looking outside the judicial branch as to why judges and their rulings are being disrespected, he should look at his leadership, or lack thereof, for judges not meeting the standards that they are sworn to uphold. Like the FBI, CIA, DOJ, Congress etc, nothing happens to those who violate their oath of office.

Roberts is obviously compromised. Is it something to do with his kids, or is he on the epstein list or what?

I believe it had something to do with him illegally adopting his son from another country (Ireland?) thru a shell (one shot) adoption agency that his lawyer set up (and then closed up).

Here we have it... Chief Justice Roberts pulling his Oracle of Delphi act. What does he mean? I don’t know? Hey Judge, could you be more specific? Cite a few examples?
