NFL draft prospects opting out of their bowl games to avoid injuries has become commonplace in college football. Miami quarterback Cam Ward did something on Saturday that takes opt-outs to another level.
Ward played in Miami’s bowl game, threw three touchdown passes in the first half and then sat for the second half as his teammates lost a 42-41 heartbreaker to Iowa State.

Sounds like Biden on his way out.
They win if he plays the second half. He showed himself to be a selfish bum.
Injuries are too common. They can cost the athletes millions as well as careers. Think Jake Butt, Michigan TE who tore up a knee in a bowl game. It’s the millions that are waiting for them that they have to protect.
I wouldn’t want him.
Troy Aikman did the same thing in Hawaii during the Pro Bowl. After a week of partying he left at half time to catch an earlier flight back home. Steve Young had to finish the game-Aikman got fined. I found it quite funny considering the importance of the game.
He should have opted out completely. No harm no foul. Everyone would understand. But to play them pull himself? Horrible optics. He will still play but I would bet he just tanked his value. Serves him right.
I’m surprised he didn’t get injured in the locker by his own players.
LOL! Say the name! "Pop Tart Bowl".
Sounds like Biden on his way out.
POTUS: Poptart Of The United States.
The NCAA has absolutely ruined college football.
I was always in favor of allowing a player to transfer without losing eligibility, but the teams now get to bid on them and their services.
I also thought that the NFL should have sponsored college football which would gave paid these kids a few hundred bucks a week and would’ve quieted the pay for play argument. But the NCAA was the real greedy party making billions off these young men and now it’s biting them hard in the ass.

The NFL needs another loser.
Agreed. Low quality character. The lure/love of money reveals this in certain (Low Quality) people.
As an NFL GM, I would be more impressed with a draft prospect who chose to be on the field battling alongside his teammates in a bowl game. Such a decision by the young man would also display his loyalty to the school fanbase.
Oh, please. More sour Boomercon nonsense. Who gives a shit? College bowl games outside of the championship pairings are nothing today but exhibitions. For the most part, sparsely attended, televised exhibitions sponsored by second- and third-rate corporate entities.
The young man was looking out for himself and his own future. That's the American way.
He won’t lose too much. NFL owners need to be protected from themselves. That’s why they came up with the salary cap. It didn’t stop the Cleveland Browns from giving all that guaranteed money to that QB who played grab-ass with the massage girls. Someone will look past that.
I watched Warren Sapp look stupid on draft day as he kept waiting for his name to be called. Hall of Fame whose character was an embarrassment. Tampa did well with him.
Why did Marshall drop out of the Independence Bowl?

All college football teams should be considered for-profit organizations and not part of a non-profit organization. If the feds can require bingo games at the KOC or the VFW to pay taxes, college football should have to do the same.

My heart wasn’t broken. I was elated.
