Someone in California has a winning Mega Millions ticket worth about $1.22 billion, which was drawn on Friday.

The ticket with the numbers 3, 7, 37, 49, 55, and gold Mega Ball 6 was sold at Sunshine Food and Gas on Rhonda Road in Cottonwood, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Saturday:

However, the identity of the winner or winners of the lottery remain a mystery. The AP article continued:

The total amount of the Mega Millions jackpot would only be distributed to a winner who chooses an annuity paid over 29 years. Nearly all grand prize winners opt to take a cash payout, which for Friday night’s drawing is an estimated $549.7 million.

Despite the game’s long odds of 1 in 302.6 million, players continued to purchase tickets as the size of the grand prize grew. Until Friday, the last time a Mega Millions player hit the top prize was Sept. 10.

Why is it always New York or California winning most of the lotteries?

That's just damned peculiar.

That is correct. A winner receives more money if they elect to receive it over twenty years.

Are you saying that the same people running our elections are also running the lotteries?

It often crosses my mind that some (or most?) of the lottery winners don’t actually exist. It’s basically just the government picking the pockets of the poor and giving nothing back. But, when the jackpot is especially big, I still buy a ticket. Because I’m dumber than I look.

They could be the same people. Running election machines, running drones overhead, running lotteries . . it just goes on and on. Probably the Bilderback - Rothchild Globalist Borg.

I’d want the money upfront, even if it meant losing most of it to taxes. Money in the hand is worth more than promised money over 30 years.

My plan would be to buy an apartment in a secure building and use a lawyer as a front to my life for the next 5 years or so, until I’m forgotten about.

Did we use to put gangsters in jail for “running the numbers”?

I rarely every buy a lottery ticket. I bought two last night. I matched ONE number, on ONE card. lol I was SO close!

No thanks

there is a 25% income tax.

There are, however, nine states that don’t automatically withhold a local lottery tax: California, Delaware, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

To put it in perspective, let’s say the winner of the $1.55 billion Mega Millions jackpot opts to receive the cash prize of $757.2 million. After federal taxes have been withheld, the prize drops to about $477.1 million, according to an analysis by USA Mega.

If the winner lives and purchased their ticket in one of the states without a state lottery tax, they would receive exactly that payout: $477.1 million. A winner in New York state would receive just $394.5 million.

Same reason as why Epstein won a lottery - $41,000,000 I think it was.

https://www.winterwatch.net/2019/08/hidden-epstein-records-indicate-he-won-an-85-million-oklahoma-lottery-jackpot-yeah-right/

Prob a payout to Newsome whose state is sinking. There was one Billion Dollar + lottery where the drawingwas delayed and then it was, of course, a resident of CA who won. CA gets all those taxes and if the winner is anonymous, I am betting there is no actual person winning it. Just moving the money.

25% is withholding, not the final tax bill.

California winner of this likely would actually net $368 million and change.
