Every time you reach for a coke, you could be losing 12 minutes of your life, scientists have claimed.
The worrying statistics were found in a study conducted by the University of Michigan which delved into just how much time certain processed foods take from your life.
Ultra-processed foods – which contain ingredients such as artificial colours and flavours, preservatives and emulsifiers – can be dangerous if not eaten in moderation.
And some favourites could end up costing you minutes of your life. A hot dog could shave off 36 minutes – and if you drink it with a coke, that’s another 12 minutes gone......
Which foods could shorten your life?
Hot dog – 36 minutes
Breakfast sandwich – 13 minutes
Eggs – 13 minutes
Coke – 12 minutes
Cheeseburgers – 9 minutes
Bacon – 6 minutes

You don’t live longer by not eating bacon; it just seems longer.
For a few years I saved two issues of the magazine Science Digest. Cover stories on coffee.
One early one said drinking coffee is dangerous for your healthy and sill shorten your life according to medical studies. For a while I drank tea but then took the daring adventure of defying them and drinking coffee again.
Second years later cover story of that same magazine:
Drink coffee every day and you will live longer. Medical studies show.
So I’ve had it with the quack fear mongering.
Apparently, based on this study, I died around 1990.
What if you take 12 minutes to drink it? Does that count as a wash?
Yum.
So who funded this “study” Pepsi?
So...eating an EGG is more dangerous than drinking a Coke? Where in the HELL do they find these idiots!
which lengthen it?
Kale.
Good thing I drink Dr Pepper!
Assuming Trump has drunk 10 cans a day for 60 years of his life, he has lost 6 years. (12 mins/can x 10 cans/day x 365 days/year x 60 years) / (365 days/year x 24 hours/day x 60 mins/hour)
DING DONG! How long has it been since anyone was at home?
More Fake Science and Medicine prescriptions. Pure Insanity!
Who sponsored the study is key. The tea institute sponsored the first one. The coffee institute the second.
I have a friend who is an oncologist. The first thing he tells his patients is to stop drinking ALL soft and energy drinks. They contain corn syrup and promote cancer growth. He also tells them to cut out all junk food.
Taking a few hours or days off the end of my life, when I’m either enduring chronic pain, can’t breathe, or suffering from dementia doesn’t sound so bad. Bring on the bacon while I can still enjoy it !
Not 11, not 13, but exactly 12. Don’t we love science?
Neither is (universally) true. He paints with far too wide a brush.
You lose even more worrying about things like this.
From what I understand, they grow cancer cells in corn syrup.
I know a lot of walking dead.
“Let’s have no sniffles,
Let’s have a bloody good cry!
And always remember the longer you live,
The sooner you bloody well die!”
