Rickey Henderson, a Baseball Hall of Famer and MLB’s all-time stolen bases leader, has died, The Post has confirmed. He was 65.

Henderson, a 10-time All-Star and 1990 American League MVP, was the game’s greatest base stealer, racking up 1,406 stolen bags in his career, an MLB record that still stands.

“I still cannot believe I’ve lost one of my favorite teammates and great friend Rickey Henderson. Rest in peace,” former Yankees teammate Dave Winfield wrote on Instagram.

Ricky Henderson is the most talented baseball player I have ever seen. There's no one else who had his combination of speed and power.

He had a bunch of funky records like most leadoff homeruns, unintentional walks etc.

It was sometimes interesting to watch how it unnerved pitchers.

Wow - I got to see Ricky play at the Oakland Coliseum during that breakout season under Billy Martin, when the A's (along with Fernando Valenzuela) were the biggest story in baseball.

Sad news - 65 is far too young, and I wasn't aware he had any health issues. RIP.

Henderson was a beast.
For a while, he was Kenny Lofton before Kenny Lofton - you wanted to win or get to or go further in the playoffs ?
Hire Henderson.

Most people that talk about themselves in the first-person are creepy - not Rickey. It was as natural as if he was talking about his best friend.

You would have to be a real character to stand out on those 1980's Yankee and A's teams - and Rickey was a REAL character.

I grew up in the Bay Area and started rooting for the A’s in grade school. My classmate was a neighbor of Joe Rudi. I moved to the Dallas area in 1991 but still follow the A’s (now Sacramento A’s for the next few years).

Rickey Henderson is one of my all-time favorite athletes. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School and was an all-American high school running back. Glad he took his Mother’s advice to play baseball. He married his high school sweetheart.

Stolen bases: Henderson is the all-time leader with 1,406 stolen bases, which is 50% more than the previous record. He also holds the single-season record for stolen bases with 130 in 1982.

Runs scored: Henderson is the all-time leader with 2,295 runs scored.

Unintentional walks: Henderson is the all-time leader with 2,129 unintentional walks.

Leadoff home runs: Henderson hit 81 leadoff home runs, which is more than any other player in history.

Most seasons leading the league in stolen bases : 12

RIP Rickey Henderson.

Throughout his career, Rickey racked up more than 3,055 hits and 297 home runs with a .279 batting average. He also holds the all-time record for runs scored with 2,295.

As for his prowess at stealing bases -- his all-time record is 1,406, and to give you an idea how impressive that is ... no other player in history has reached 1,000 stolen bases!

Bill James once developed a statistical metric called “Baseball IQ,” which was based on a combination of things like strikeout-to-walk ratio, stolen base percentage, and other statistics. What I remember most about Rickey Henderson was that he consistently ranked at or near the bottom of the list of all MLB players by this measure. LOL.
