Only 65? I thought he was older. RIP. Sometime Ricky be Ricky.
Concussions?
He was all the time stealing. But RIP.
R.I.P. very exciting when Ricky was on base.
Henderson was a beast.
For a while, he was Kenny Lofton before Kenny Lofton - you wanted to win or get to or go further in the playoffs ?
Hire Henderson.

You would have to be a real character to stand out on those 1980's Yankee and A's teams - and Rickey was a REAL character.
I grew up in the Bay Area and started rooting for the A’s in grade school. My classmate was a neighbor of Joe Rudi. I moved to the Dallas area in 1991 but still follow the A’s (now Sacramento A’s for the next few years).
Rickey Henderson is one of my all-time favorite athletes. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School and was an all-American high school running back. Glad he took his Mother’s advice to play baseball. He married his high school sweetheart.
Stolen bases: Henderson is the all-time leader with 1,406 stolen bases, which is 50% more than the previous record. He also holds the single-season record for stolen bases with 130 in 1982.
Runs scored: Henderson is the all-time leader with 2,295 runs scored.
Unintentional walks: Henderson is the all-time leader with 2,129 unintentional walks.
Leadoff home runs: Henderson hit 81 leadoff home runs, which is more than any other player in history.
Most seasons leading the league in stolen bases : 12
๐ข RIP

Throughout his career, Rickey racked up more than 3,055 hits and 297 home runs with a .279 batting average. He also holds the all-time record for runs scored with 2,295.
As for his prowess at stealing bases -- his all-time record is 1,406, and to give you an idea how impressive that is ... no other player in history has reached 1,000 stolen bases!

This article says he was in the hospital in the Oakland area being treated for pneumonia.
When Nolan Ryan got his 5000th strikeout it was Ricky Henderson :-)
Bill James once developed a statistical metric called โBaseball IQ,โ which was based on a combination of things like strikeout-to-walk ratio, stolen base percentage, and other statistics. What I remember most about Rickey Henderson was that he consistently ranked at or near the bottom of the list of all MLB players by this measure. LOL.
I rather watch a team with a great base stealer than a great home run hitter.
Wow. So young.
One story about Rickey Henderson is the time the Oakland A’s accounting office was having trouble finding a million dollar discrepancy on their books. It turns out that Henderson had framed a million dollar bonus check and hanged it on his wall rather than depositing it in his bank.
“I don’t wanna hear about John hittin’ .316! Rickey’s hittin’ .330!”
Here’s hoping he eventually turned to John 3.16. Rest in Peace Rickey.
Oh man, one of my favorite players of all time. I have his rookie card and always will.
