Is there some evidence suggesting that humans are the Galaxy’s only intelligent species? Enrico Fermi thought so – and he was a pretty smart guy. Could he be right?
In 1950, the famous physicist made a seemingly innocuous lunchtime remark that has caught and held the attention of every SETI researcher since. The utterance came while Fermi was discussing with his mealtime mates the reasonable possibility that many sophisticated societies populate the Galaxy. But somewhere between one sentence and the next, Fermi’s supple brain realized that if this was true, it implied something profound. If there are really a lot of alien societies, then some of them might have spread out.
Fermi grasped that any civilization with a modest amount of rocket technology and an immodest amount of imperial incentive could rapidly colonize the entire Galaxy. Within a few tens of millions of years, every star system could be brought under the wing of empire. Tens of millions of years may sound like a long project, but in fact it’s quite short compared to the age of the Galaxy, which is roughly a thousand times more.
So what Fermi immediately recognized was that the aliens have had more than enough time to pepper the Galaxy with their presence. But looking around, we don’t see any clear indication that they’re out and about. We don’t see any obvious evidence of a galactic empire or a United Federation of Planets.
This prompted Fermi to ask what was (to him) an obvious question: “where is everybody?”

“Earth is a penal colony. We’re here because everyone else doesn’t want their children near us.”
That Earth is quarantined by the galactic civilizations because of our warlike nature is a theme in sci-fi. I have a preference for Asimov’s idea in the Foundation series. That our Earth/Moon system is unique and there are no complex lifeforms anywhere else in the galaxy.
Star Trek did an episode on this https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0572231/
The difference in travel of a few weeks or months, and years upon years, is immense. Add to that, on our planet, you can assume that the temperature range, and the amount of oxygen and water will be the same from continent to continent. The animals in N America are generally as edible as those in Asia also.
The gamble to travel between stars on a hope and a prayer, is a 100% losing battle. I wouldn’t do it, I would mock those who would.
This planet is all we have, and IMO there is nowhere to go until we are able to travel by the will of our spirit.
The official US government policy is this:
If you encounter any aliens you are to instruct them they do not exist and therefore they must go away!
Waste of space? By whose standards? Jody Foster? I don’t find it sad at all. I am in awe of a God that can create this vastness of space. He can do with it what he wishes, not ours.
Aliens? Us? Is that one of your Earth jokes?
I can judge! The fact that aliens are enamored with fist pumping troglodytes from New Jersey is, unsettling......
Maybe we were faster than other planets? Imagine how long it would take for other solar systems if they were full of intelligences like Maxine Waters? It would take a while to advance. And then there is also the possibility that other civilizations might self destruct with all their advances so they could never get out of their own solar systems.
If there are others out there who could get here then they likely have mastered respect and learned to control their greed.
There are well over 16,000 known extra-terrestrial species in the Milky Way alone.
I know this as a fact because it is in my book.
They might very well be out there, but with no interest in going on very long space journeys. They might not see any good reason to leave their planet and go exploring other planets. They might see other civilizations as hostile and dangerous.
I don’t know if there’s anybody out there, but it’s reasonable to think that there is intelligent life somewhere in the vast universe.
It looks and you and this lady will have to duke out the copyright issues in court:

Lol.
My thinking is that civilizations are rare. Being rare, they are widely dispersed. Civilizations end before advancing to the point that they can detect another. Much rarer cases exist where two civilizations end up close enough to one another for detection. Those begin expending resources to destroy the other, but collapse before advancing far enough to do so.
“They might see other civilizations as hostile and dangerous.”
We better hope none of them find out about the woke ideology—because if they do they will just nuke us from space and call it good.
Interesting tidbit!
I think that is Fermi’s point from a secular perspective- whatever you could imagine would have taken place by now if you accept things have been around and evolving much longer than this speck we live on has been around.
In my mind from a spiritual perspective; we are not meant to go ‘beyond’ until His time has been accomplished here. Israel is a chosen people and place (a chosen planet as well). The ‘beyond’ knows the reality - while we argue over the Mahdi or Yeshua as the point of reconciliation to the Father in Heaven. We have not achieved the spiritual maturity to reach beyond our planet - that is why we can be manipulated by what hides in the dark. I used to dream 50 years ago I could travel to the moon or Mars as an adult. Too much reality is yet to be revealed to allow us to explore creation. We can’t yet be honest with ourselves - what exists ‘beyond’ would not treat us kindly, or justly.
Except Europa. Attempt no landing there.
A Galactic BestSeller!
I always marveled at the illogic of one of cheezy sci-fi film where an “advanced” civilization - whose inhabitants looked exactly like Japanese earthlings and spoke dubbed-in English - sent a ‘rocket ship’ from their planet of origin to earth, seeking our special formula for - wait for it ...
ROCKET FUEL!!!
It didn’t say, but maybe their elite leaders declared a climate emergency and was forcing the transition from rocket fuel to electric rockets, or something... 🙄😲😉
Guess it proves that the only real constant in the Universe is stupidity.
Why do they crash so much?
