LG's new TV creates a nifty illusion of on-screen content floating in mid-air

After stealing the show at CES 2024 in January, LG's totally transparent TV is finally available to buy. The 77-inch Signature OLED T can be yours for an eye-watering US$60,000.

With that kind of scratch, you could buy three top-of-the-line 85-inch Samsung 'The Terrace' Full Sun Neo QLED 4K outdoor TVs designed to be used in direct sunlight – or a 2025 BMW 5-series car.

Anyway, you're here about the Signature OLED T. We're talking about a 4K 120 Hz OLED TV you can literally see through when it's displaying a picture on screen – creating the illusion of content floating in mid-air, and merging with its surroundings.

Beyond all the shows and movies you'll stream, you can also enjoy the OLED T's transparent effect using specially developed screensaver content called T Objet, which features themes like nature and art.

Why do I want to see through my TV?

So you don't bump into things.

That $60,000 price tag is just a fleece the early adopters who liked to show off. I’ll bet within three years that TV is under $600.

No kidding. Why not buy a beautiful sports car and then graft some $100 fake “ricer” spoiler on it?

I have the really expensive 5-spkr v5.1 Surround Sound System thru Logitech’s AV System, for my HP Computer, and I re-route the TV thru that speaker system, too. With the Polk Sound Bar and Floor (huge) SubWoofer, it’s an amazing system.

Naw, it’s what Congress wants for Christm..., uh, the winter break big present. Notice it costs, including tax, what their raise would be.

Correctomundo from what I remember....I guess all they did was not send the opaque signal to the screen...actually a crippled screen display.. the uninitiated were expecting to see transistors, wiring, and tubes if the screen was transparent.
Most, if not all computers could generate “transparent” images” back in the olden days.
Would rather have a used desktop electron microscope, or, a desktop gene sequencer for the money.

No, but I do read my posts before hitting “Post”.

Read the post. I will resist calling the OP an idiot, but the post repeats itself.

It seems to be a thing lately on FR. Posters just copy it all, not noticing that many online articles have “highlights” that repeat the contents of the article. When viewed on the original page, these are usually a separate, highlighted area. But if you blindly select it all, copy, then paste into your FR post, you end up with your post saying the same stuff over and over again.

Annoying.

8k tvs AND cameras already commercially available. A bit pricey now, but less than 60k Dollares...

Contemporary doesn’t fit in with my great grandma 1900 style.

Huh? So, which is it? An illusion or really seeing through it? If seeing through, then that’d be an ever so exciting white wall. Or why put it in front of a window when you can look out the window for free? A view of hills, a river and wildlife doesn’t need an expensive illusion.

No, for $60k, I’d rather pay the taxes, pay the electric bill, put food on the table and get the car out of the shop... again

Ha! I see your problem right there. NEVER read the whole article before posting or people may consider you uppity. Or condescending. That's not for me. I quickly skim a few lines and then post away. Sometimes I misread a word or two but that comes with the territory. They expect nothing less from me.

Please, talk to me about “night and day difference for older eyes.” Everything is a big blur on our tv and when I get up close can see the outlines of 3 shadows. Of course, the tv repairman says I’m just going blind and nothing is wrong with the reception. Strange, I can see everything else just fine. And then there’s the sound quality that is so bad I have to have CC on but don’t need CC on my computer.

BTW, I’ve finally talked Mr. b into cutting the cable but he still wants to see a couple current shows on CBS. What subscriptions do we need to get? Thanks.

You can still use a 5.1 system with a wall mounted tv
