Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Police in Wyoming are reminding residents to decorate their homes for Christmas instead of their vehicles after a driver was pulled over with their car illuminated by festive lights.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol shared a photo on social media showing a Ford Mustang pulled over by a trooper who noticed the entire vehicle was decked out in colorful lights for the holidays.
"As the holiday season approaches, we would like to remind you of a Wyoming statute," the post said.
The statute in question states that "no person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device thereon capable of displaying a red or blue light visible from directly in front of the center thereof."
The post said that while decorating a car "might look cool and be festive, we would to remind you that it is illegal. Please remember to stay safe when celebrating this season!"
There’s a coffee kiosk not far from us that sits close to a main road. They have BRIGHT red and blue LED flashing lights on a sign by the road. Every single time I drive by I think the cops nailed somebody. It’s a very poor choice of an advertising sign.
I was stopped by a county deputy sheriff for having a blue LED light on my motorcycle..............
I saw an attractive woman in her early 30’s driving a beautiful Mustang convertible last summer.
Her license plate read
[WAS HIS]
we are ruled by jerks?
Cool, so no headlights on cars because they can be easily tinted red or blue...
I realize their highway patrol might be bored up there, but this is reaching pretty deep in the barrel.
There's a sub-Reddit for Mustang owners that have been trolling each other for a month. My wife and I saw a black 2022? GT in a strip mall near by with hundreds of LED Christmas lights taped (3/4" electrical tape) all over the car.
It looked awesome! Glad I'm not cleaning the paint afterwards.
The intent of the statute is obvious and commonsense. Unfortunately, those traits are in very short supply within the ranks of authority figures anymore.
honky lips!!!
It’s legal in Nevada (what isn’t?)…saw a Dodge Ram decorated in just this manner in an Albertson’s parking lot just the other day.
I had colored lights on top of my Vibe and got a lot of compliments from law enforcement. Later, however, one made me take them down.
I switched to amber and white and haven’t had trouble since. Green, red, and blue are illegal in IL (fire trucks and ambulances here also have green).
Almost a third of the state voted for Harris in the election. And yes, they are breaking the law. It is written that way.
The number of people killed by firearm violence grew by nearly 43% between 2010 and 2020 across the US. There are laws against it.
In 2023, around 16,944 robberies took place in parking garages or parking lots in the United States. In 2023, around 3,640.56 violent crimes per 100,000 residents were reported in Oakland, California. There are laws against it. In 2023, the federal state of California had the most reported robberies in the United States, with 49,977 reported cases. Laws against that too.
But that didn’t seem to make any difference...people just break the law. And yes, read the statute and they are breaking the law.
Did you know that in California, when it was forming into statehood, they had a drought one year so there is a law on the books that says you can’t wash your clothes on Thursday? There is a law in a city in Texas that say opposing high school football teams cannot touch a football inside of the city limits because a number of years ago their local team was terrible and they were getting beat all the time? In Alabama it’s illegal to wear a fake mustache in church that makes people laugh. In Florida it’s illegal to participate in or permit a “dwarf-tossing” contest if you own a bar, restaurant, or other place where liquor is sold.
There are laws on the books everywhere that may not seem to have an intelligent meaning. So it is possible Wyoming is saying don’t decorate your car with anything that can be converted into the appearance of an emergency vehicle causing right of way yealding questions probably because people have done it.
