...In what was hailed as one of the funniest opening monologues in recent times, Rock placed comedy above politics as he took swipes at both sides of the political spectrum...
'Trump had a good year, man,' Rock said. 'Trump survived an assassination attempt. Won the presidency again by winning the popular vote. Was just named 'Time' man of the year...
'A lot of people are scared. Like, "oh, my God, he's going to be so undignified." When I say a lot of people, I'm talking about the nine New Yorkers that didn't vote for him, okay?', Rock said, poking fun at liberals...
'Come on, man, this is not the most dignified job in the world. We've had presidents show up to the inauguration with pregnant slaves, okay? And I'm just talking about Bill Clinton,' ...
'Dude. It's the United States... I mean, you know what country we live in. You know the history of this country. You know how many rapists are in my wallet right now? A cup of coffee in America costs seven rapists... Trump's going to get it down to three.' ...
Turning to Trump, Rock joked how the president-elect was going to start deporting illegal immigrants while working with the 'number one African American in the world, the richest African American in the world, Elon Musk.' ... 'They're going to put them in a rocket ship–call it 'SpaceMex,' ...
'I gotta hand it to Joe, he don't move as fast as he used to, he don't talk as fast as he used to,' Rock said, 'but that middle finger still works,' ... 'Only an animal would not pardon your son. Every parent in the world would pardon their son, except the parents of the Menendez Brothers,' he joked.

He’s still got it. He and David Chappelle did a great SNL skit back in 2016 after the election.
BTTT!
Making Comedy Funny Again
I thought his whole show appeared “stressed.” Not anxiety stress, but just that he was trying really hard with less than great material.
I thought the entire show was mediocre last night. And this season has actually had some funny moments.
There's another clip from last night about workplace sexual harassment, and he's in that. I started it, but got called away by this bag of Heritage Flakes I'm munching dry.
I wanted it to be funny but it wasn’t.
Johnny Carson was the King of late night comedy.
He didn’t take sides.
Maybe he was political or maybe he wasn’t.
He was practical and a professional entertainer.
Coming up with comedy material is hard.
Why make your work twice as difficult by limiting your subject by half?
Not only that only a fool would not recognize by doing that you are limiting your audience by the same proportion.
Agreed. Tired of race jokes. Either side of color line.
Enjoyed dat!
So tired of the America sucks routine.
His n-bomb routine is probably still on YouTube, it’s from his late 90s tour, “Bring the Pain” I think it was called. That one killed. But he dropped it because as he put it, he didn’t like who was talking about it and shouldn’t have been.
I agree though, we get enough of the America sucks routine right here on FR on a continuing basis.
He was endearing because he bombed so much. :^)

Dave is great but I did love the Chris Rock Hit fob on Will Smith.
:^) That was one of the comments noted at the end of the original article.
Less than great material on SNL is the rule rather than the exception, has been for most of its run, imho. Lorne and the people he has on the show are largely a bunch of partisan cretins.
The best comedians are the ones who (a)tell the truth and (b)go after EVERYONE.
Funniest comedian I've ever seen live is hands-down Gilbert Gottfried.
NEVER broke character. Went after EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. he was viscious and brutal and had the entire place gasping for air laughing including me.
Chris Rock "back in the day" was freaking awesome. Dave Chappelle has never stopped being hilariously brutal. We need MORE comedians like these guys. Seriously. Make America Laugh Again!
Some memorable Carson moments:
‘May a diseased camel take a liking to your sister.’
‘I was beside myself....my favorite position.’
“Lorne and the people he has on the show are largely a bunch of partisan cretins.”
