Cause Ennio Moricone is dead. That whole concert is really amazing. But really, Ennio was a singular talent, he ain’t happening again.

When I was growing up in New York, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly was always on rhe television at Christmas time. My mom wanted to watch the Yule log. My dad and I wanted to watch the movie. As a compromise, put on the movie and when it was over we’d turn to the Yule log….unless A Fist Full of Dollars was on.

If you still have them and they are aren’t brittle, there are videos on youtube that will show you how to recover vinyl records from the snap-crackle-pop. Watch them first, but IIRC they use either wood glue or Elmers to get down into the grooves to remove the micro-grit.

John Williams is still with us. He’s not Ennio Morricone. But he is John Williams! 🙂

Williams would be #1 in a world where Ennio never existed. But Ennio has the edge largely I think because of experimenting, getting that avante garde edge, playing with musique concrète, always adding to his tool box. That’s one of the great parts about watching that concert, you really get to see just how many tools he used. They’ve got a whole orchestra, and a chorus, and some rock instruments, and a whole bunch of crazy stuff in the percussion area (percussionists have the best job, they get to play all the weird stuff).

I like their attitude ;-)
Here’s another good one, a Mancini tune and I suspect not many local dudes in the band:

It is claimed he ad-libbed that scene; it was not scripted.

Unlike many other avant-garde/experimental composers, who I generally can’t stand, Ennio had an ear for a beautiful melody. He could weird you out and then make you swoon in love.
Very Italian in that regard.
