University of Tokyo researchers have created a mathematical framework for cellular death, offering new tools to study and potentially control life-death transitions in biological systems.
Researchers are redefining the criteria that determine whether a cell is considered alive or dead.
Cellular death is a fundamental concept in biological sciences. Despite its importance, its definition varies depending on the context in which it occurs and lacks a general mathematical definition.
Researchers from the University of Tokyo propose a new mathematical definition of death based on whether a potentially dead cell can return to a predefined “representative state of living,” which are the states of being that we can confidently call “alive.” The researchers’ work could be useful for biological researchers and future medical research.
While it’s not something we like to think about, death comes for us all eventually, whether you’re an animal, a plant, or even a cell. And even though we can all differentiate between what is alive and dead, it might be surprising to know that death at a cellular level lacks a widely recognized mathematical definition.

Given that cell death plays such an important role in various biological processes and can have important health implications, it’s of critical importance to understand what we really mean by cellular death, especially in research.
A Mathematical Approach to the Life-Death Boundary
“My long-term scientific goal is to understand the inherent difference between life and nonlife, mathematically; why the transition from nonlife to life is so difficult, while the other way around is so easy,” said Assistant Professor Yusuke Himeoka from the Universal Biology Institute. “Our aim in this project was to develop a mathematical definition and computational method to quantify the life-death boundary. We were able to do this by exploiting an important feature of biological reaction systems, specifically enzymatic reactions within cells.”

Himeoka and his team proposed a mathematical definition of cell death. It’s based on the way cellular states including metabolism can be controlled by modulating the activities of enzymes. They define dead states as those states from which cells cannot return to an apparent “living” state, regardless of the modulation of any biochemical processes. This led them to develop a computational method for quantifying the life-death boundary, which they call “stoichiometric rays.”
The method was developed by focusing on enzymatic reactions and the second law of thermodynamics, which states that systems naturally move from ordered to disordered states. Researchers could use these methods to better understand, control, and possibly even reverse, cellular death in controlled lab experiments.
“This method of computation is not applicable to autonomic systems, however, the systems which make the machinery for control, such as proteins. Autonomy is one of the hallmarks of living systems. I would like to extend our method so that it can also be applied to these,” said Himeoka. “We naively believe that death is irreversible, but it is not so trivial and does not have to be the case. I believe that should death become more under our control, human beings, our understanding of life, and society will change completely. In this sense, understanding death is crucial in terms of science and social implications.”

‘es not dead, ‘es just pinin’ for the fjords!
This how Zombie Apocalypses start folks.
You heard it here first.
so retirement is death, that what ur sayin?
Don’t be such a baby.
I’m getting better!
No, you’re not. You’ll be stone dead in a moment.
I feel happy!
It is not surprising at all. While death can be defined at the level of the organism, there are times when it is not clear at all whether cells are alive or dead.
One time, I conducted a dose-response study of a deadly toxin in some human cells. At the high end of the dose range, the cells quite clearly died. At the low end of the dose range, the cells became "ill" but recovered. The length of time to recovery correlated with the dose of toxin I had given them. Somewhere in the middle dose range, there was a plate of cells that looked alive under the microscope. Each cell attached to the plate and spread spiky extensions of itself in all directions. This is what some cells do to look for other cells; when they encounter each other, they crawl towards each other. So, in this respect, the cells appeared alive. However, they did not grow. The number of cells stayed constant daily. I gave them fresh media every couple of days, but they still just sat there, crawling around and looking spiky. At one point, I removed them from that plate and put them in a new plate. When cells are removed from a plate, they turn into little balls, and these were no different. When I checked on them the next day, they had resumed their normal spiky appearance. But... they still would not grow. I think I gave up on them after about six weeks.
Dead cells do not grow. And dead cells do not attach to the plate, spread out, or crawl around. These cells were neither alive nor dead.
Like Schrödinger’s cat................
I guess I can’t cell you on that idea.
If my-toes-is, not dead.
The physical body dies. The soul is another story.
In many ways, the soul is like a tree that lives many years, getting larger with each season it lives. It has dormant seasons, but grows a new physical body each new season.
We are seeds of consciousness, planted here in the darkness of earth in these seed pod physical bodies to grow and learn to utilize the Light.
As I walk through a person’s soul, it extends far from the physical body it manifests, like a projection screen so the movie can be viewed and experienced.
The current soul or individual consciousness field goes out about 15 feet in all directions, with conception and early childhood memories stored on the outer perimeter. The memories of all life experiences are stored in reverse sequence at the intersection of the two aspects of consciousness. Recent memories are stored close to the physical body.
As a Christian, I had a hard time accepting this next item. My perception of reality differed from my Christian teachings.
If I am standing in a person’s conception memory which is about 15 ft from the physical body, and then take a half step further away, I am standing in the death experience of their previous life.
As I continue to move outward, every memory of the life experiences of that incarnation are stored in reverse sequence all the way back to that conception.
Again, if I take another half step backward I am in the death experience memory of the life before that one.
Like growth rings on a tree, going outward in all directions, the soul continues growing and getting larger. As it grows, it reaches higher into consciousness frequencies until is finally transcends the physical body and you perceive directly with your consciousness rather than your physical body senses.
This is Transcendence and is the goal of the teachings of all religions.
As the soul expands into Transcendence, the individual soul experiences and perceives unity with the greater consciousness many call God.
This is why Jesus stated when He came out of the wilderness “My Father and I are One. “ This is why Buddha stated when He experienced this expansion of consciousness, “I am One with Everything”.
When you Transcend self through daily ego death, you experience this and consciousness of others becomes physical to your perception. This is how Jesus always knew the thoughts of people around Him.
It’s easy to demonstrate this as all the obstacles to Love in a person’s soul become physical to your perception. It’s hard to describe to a person who does not perceive consciousness, but it’s like a dense dark cloud of consciousness. Fear is one of the most dense as it feels like wet cement when I experience it. It actually cramps my feet when I walk into a person’s fear memory.
If a person has a phobia, I just have them close their eyes and walk through their soul in sequence of their stored memories. When my hand hits the original memory that programmed the fear perception to that type of event, it pushes the person over, often knocking them off their feet, even though I am many feet away from them and not saying anything or physically touching them in any way.
Life is about finding and removing all the obstacles to Love in our soul so we can radiate the Love and Light like a young child.
I’ve been as far as 300 ft from a person and touched a traumatic stored memory that knocked a person over. It was a memory of dying in childbirth many lifetimes ago.
I know many people will read this and think nonsense toward my words. I assure you it is all real and experienced by me on a daily basis as my reality.
This is not about me and what I do. It is about empowering people with the knowledge to do their own work. The soul growth comes from the experience, not the knowledge.
What I have shared barely scratches the surface of the complexity of the human soul. The things I share are a result of a change in my consciousness over 35 years ago when I died and crossed over to Heaven. The Love there was so strong it changed my soul.
It raised me up to a higher frequency of consciousness that changed my perception of reality that stayed with me when I returned to my physical body. I’ve been straddling the fence of these two realities ever since. I don’t want to be here in this earthly realm as it feels like a garbage dump of consciousness, especially recently as the times are changing rapidly.
May my words spark your soul to search within yourself for truth to guide you to your own experience. The answers are within you, not externally in me or any other person.
The Bible is truth, and Jesus is my Savior, as He sacrificed and lowered Himself to be born in the flesh to teach us how to be One with Him, leading us to be One with Our Father.
John 14 is my favorite Bible scripture as it accurately describes the truths that are the secrets to experiencing Him.
Jesus is here now, but most cannot see Him as they are asleep in the lower consciousness realms. If Jesus were not already here, Communion would be a worthless ritual. He is here and the experience of true Communion with Him is our goal.
