Pantone names its color of the year for 2025

Pantone has named an “evocative soft brown” its color of the year for 2025, continuing a tradition that has now run for more than a quarter of a century.

In a statement published Thursday, the global color specialist said Mocha Mousse was “a mellow brown infused with a sensorial and comforting warmth.”

“A warming rich brown hue, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse nurtures with its suggestion of the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort,” it added.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the color evokes “thoughtful indulgence.”

“Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe,” she said in the statement.

Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, added that Mocha Mousse feeds into a desire for harmony.

“With that in mind, for Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a color that reaches into our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others,” she said.

Each December, Pantone names a color of the year for the following year, and this is the 26th time that it has done so.

To make their pick, experts at the Pantone Color Institute trawl through high-fashion runways, interior design trends, pop culture moments and human psychology.

The first Color of the Year was Sky Blue in 1999, while more recent choices include Peach Fuzz — “a light, fruity tone that conjures peace and serenity” — in 2024. and Viva Magenta — “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time” — in 2023.

Pantone is a good brand for art and printing supplies.
Back when I did a lot of freelance illustration, I often used their press type lettering and colored papers.
Grumbacher and Dr.Martin are two other top quality brands for this kind of merchandise.

That’s right. If we didn’t cover our books we’d get in trouble.

“That color was picked by a committee 5 years ago. then the dye makers went to work, the cloth makers, the designers, the marketers, etc.” fashion is created.

I have told people similar things WRT "color trends," "typography trends," etc for years. "Spontaneity is too lucrative to be left to chance," was the ever-so-arch way it was once glibly (and somewhat sinisterly) explained to me.

I’m ready for the white/black/gray thing to come to an end. Have houses with brass and bronze hardware, and it’s hard to find stuff that matches.

"...or that horrible harvest gold, burnt orange, avocado green from the 70’s."

When I bought my childhood home from my Dad, I stripped MILES of shiny, vinyl wallpaper in those colors from the kitchen/dining room. What a project!

But my Mom was House Proud and trendy for the times!

Remember this Tupperware set?

I did my part on that yesterday. I wore my red Trump 2020 hat while out running errands. Got several compliments on it.

That’s quite pretty, actually. And I’m an ‘Autumn’ so I look good in brown sweaters and such.

Green is my go-to color, though. ;)

So happy together that they haven’t been living together since who knows. Watch them when they have an event and have to show up together. They don’t like each other. She has to make him hold her hand.

They didn’t exactly leave the UK but were booted out and she was told to never return. The family met Archie in the beginning but haven’t seen him since and have never laid eyes on Lilibet (stolen name), you know, aka the invisikids/dolls. Ever see them out as a family getting ice cream? Ever see grandma with her car filled with Christmas presents or stuffed animals and balloons on birthdays at Montecito?

Harry has to either sneak back to England or begs his father to schedule him in but daddy doesn’t have time in his schedule anymore. The rest of the family have washed their hands of them both after she treated the royal staff like dirt, went through nannies like kleenex, thought Camilla should bow to her, totally believes Harry should be king and her queen, tried to break up William and Catherine by flirting with him and when that didn’t work started affair rumors around his old gf and even got Camilla roped in, got all snotty with little Charlotte so bad it made Catherine cry, wears replicas of not just Diana’s jewelry/clothing but Wallis’ as well, wanted Diana’s jewelry and some family tiaras (QE had to get one back and told her no more), she was wired up so no one wanted to speak to her, Anne and Zara both had talks with her about recording people and she was caught taking pictures and sneaking into Wm’s kids’ rooms to photograph them sleeping and who knows what all. She ordered the neighbors to not so much as look at her or the dogs when she took them on walks. She had to be told to quit pushing in front of Catherine and QE. She wasn’t allowed on the last balcony event but had on the biggest white hat she could find so the cameras could see her pressing against the window like a little kid, “Look at MEEEE!”

Back in the US, she was still ugly to staff and shoved one into the pool. He wrote that nasty tell all lies book with MEghan’s encouragement. Oh, but why wouldn’t everyone love her??

They spent as long as legally allowed in Canada rent free and then they ended up in Montecito. That mansion may be another rental. They’ve either bought or are looking at property in Portugal. Harry may get kicked out of the US if he lied on his visa about drugs.

About the $$$$$, he was getting a boatload from daddy until after the book. There was also the inheritance from Diana and QE and recently on his 40th birthday got a few million more from his great grandmother’s estate so that might be helping buy the place in Portugal. Yeah, MEghan needs to get her name on that. They couldn’t buy her way into acting and her Hollyweirdo friends have dumped her for her lies. They may be in trouble with the Diddy thing which brought about the Portugal thing but they’re too stupid to realize Portugal has extradition (cough, Ellen might find out the UK has it too). They’d lost Spotify and Netflix because they’re lazy and people hated her holier than thou attitude on her podcasts, not fulfilling the contracts and just yesterday the news broke Netflix dumped her never started fake jam due to her unpopularity (heck, she couldn’t even get the label on correctly), the jam’s legal work, blah, blah. Nothing they touch ever works out because their legal team and accountants keep quitting and she thinks she knows more than them. The fed tax guys are moving in on her, him and their enterprises. Seems he may not have paid his personal taxes, they haven’t paid taxes on business stuff and the may lose their charity exemptions because for two years they’ve donated bigly to Biden and Ashley’s organizations.

Or was your post sarcasm?

I regularly blow the ‘grocery money’ at Dick Blick Art Supplies. And I can’t draw my way out of a wet paper bag, LOL!

I LOVE to color, though. So does my Mom - she’s AWESOME - does all the ‘shadings’ and her pictures are always perfection. :)

Nice color. Safe.

Not in my palette.

Could work with a Sapphire blue but to light for a baby blue.

Yellows reds maybe?

It’s just a pathetic background color.

Uninspiring.

I want to see it’s potential, but there isn’t any.

Most of that set is still in my cupboard.

An inheritance from my in-laws.

Say what you will about it, that stuff lasts forever.

Dishwasher, children, picnics, the only thing that it does not survive is being absentmindedly put down on a still hot burner.

‘Dark Brown’ is my ‘Black’ for the most part. Black makes me look washed out; brown complements my skin tone, blonde hair, and green eyes.
