It's that time of year where we gather with Loved ones and "not so loved" ones.
This will be an ongoing thread through the holidays where we can vent about those who we would rather not be around but are required to do so.
Feel free to vent here about that special someone who manages to ruin your holidays, inlaws you abhor having over for dinner, and even that boss or co-worker who destroys the Xmas spirit.
Free at last, fee at last! Hahah
I had a liano iny house for 19 yrs because a relative paid to have her piano delivered to us when I wasn’t home.
She didn’t want it to go to waste so it sat unplayed iny living ro until we sold the house and had to break it apart to get out and down the steps without destroying my rebuilt/nice porch.
The initial delivery damaged the porch.
See....I can tolerate ill mannered relatives.
What’s your problem Whitney?
Everybody needs to vent once in a while, even us conservatives. I’m glad this thread as started.
The worst honey baked ham I ever ate...
Bared witness on every cook out, my ex-Father-n-law relentlessly squeeze the juice out of every hamburger ever cooked...
Ex wife couldnt cook at all. something as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich... always one side burned and served burned side down so I wouldnt notice...
Memories forever etched into my memories of a failed marriage. My Ex-Inlaws were the worst cooks on the planet.
smmfh... thanks for the recall BigErn!!...
I think it might be a good lesson for the son to see what happens when you’re a guest in someone’s house but conduct yourself like a boor.
There is one other benefit to laying down the law that may not be obvious.
Once you do it over time everyone in the family respects you—you are a person who makes tough decisions and sticks with him.
That is particularly impressive for the youngsters in the family who are looking for adults to emulate.
You brother-in-law is a malignant narcissist, IMO. I figure the best thing to do is to just keep him away from your family. I’m aware that could mean your sister could choose not to speak to you, but you would at least have peace of mind.
This isn’t the crazy lib relative who rants about Thanksgiving being a holiday of White colonialist oppressors who killed the Indians with smallpox. This relative is a genuinely evil man, and he must be kept away. My 0.02.
Did you tell her you voted for Trump this time? If not, go ahead and tell her. That will save you another headache.
When I moved in with her I thought it was because she getting old and forgetful but my aunts and uncles assured me that she never could cook. Which explained why every time we visited her there was always a big potluck the first day and we would snack on the remains or go out to eat the rest of the visit. My mom would always make breakfast on those visits.
I took over the cooking duties which I had planned to do anyway as the reason I moved in was she left the unlit gas burner on and nearly killed herself.
Good memories.
I won’t deal with idiots, family or otherwise.

I make it clear to everyone that I will NOT interact with anyone anywhere, from strangers to closest relatives, if I discover that they are Marxist-Democrats or RINOs. I had professionally-made metal signs posted on the entrances to my property which read “NO DEMOCRATS ARE WELCOME HERE. DO NOT ENTER”. Why so adamant? Because IMHO those I’ve permanently shunned are people who are irrational and dangerous, cannot be trusted, have no conscience, and are my avowed enemies by their own choice.
What the eff is wrong with people ?
Can’t they just set politics aside for a few hours and enjoy a meal?
Is this a uniquely American thing?
btt!!
That is another perspective. However the sister and son will suffer.
My sister is doing a great job of keeping the kid from turning into his father so far.
Not sure it will work.
I do think she tries to keep me involved with the boy so he sees what a good father looks like.
Both my kids (grown) are good people and not struggling with all the other stuff kids their ages deal with (23-27 y.o.)
My nephew gravitated towards me whenever we visit them or they visit us.
I taught him how to pound nails and use a drill last year when he was 2.
We didn’t get to do any of that stuff this trip because of schedule and drama.
Maybe next time.
I think there’s something irrational about putting up signs like that...
My pleasure sitrep!
By the way, Texas is a huge upgrade from the Seattle area.
I’m watching my Seahawks in TV while my son is putting 9mm downrange just off our porch...into a berm/burn pile.
The OP doesn’t seem to think so.
You could have had her make you 2 sandwiches every time and just swapped out the burnt slice for the good slice abd ate the unburnt sandwhich.
The last I had a conversation with her....I think it was a text....she got outraged over a big nothing.....and I told her “there you go again...you always have to turn it into an argument abd make it some personal insult.
That is my read as well.
Narcissists are a danger to themselves and others—you never know what they are going to do next.
It is like having a live grenade sitting in the living room—may be fine—or something could go very wrong.
