A gigantic fire erupted inside a $4 million Connecticut mansion after residents attempted to fry a turkey in the garage on Thanksgiving.
Firefighters faces several challenges on the holiday afternoon after the stunning mansion at 40 Weston Road in Weston went up in flames.
The aggressive fire quickly spread throughout the home, and soon, its structural collapse created dangerous conditions for responding firefighters.
Residents were attempting to fry a turkey for the big meal Thursday afternoon when the garage caught fire and began 'rapidly extending into the residence,' according to Weston Volunteer Fire Department.
'Firefighters attempted an aggressive fire attack, however, their efforts were thwarted by dangerous fire conditions and structural collapse,' the department, which battled the flames for 16 hours, wrote in a Facebook post.
In addition to the gigantic flames ripping through the home, first responders hit a major setback when water flow stopped for 'several minutes' after a 'vehicle drove over the water supply hose,' damaging it.
The identity of the turkey chef was not released by authorities, but the home is owned by Tweedy, Brown Managing Director Thomas H. Shrager, according to public records.
Photos released by the fire department show massive flames ripping through the home and extending several feet outside the home through broken windows.

My guess is “former Florida Man”—— moved last year.
Jeez. It seems like somebody does this every year.
The garage chef to firefighters: “On the good side, the turkey came out just right. Want some?”
Crispy
Didn’t we just have a thread on how to fry turkeys a few days ago?
I assume the turkey was a little too well done to be edible.
Biff and Muffy and a turkey fryer are a bad combination.
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fry!
Our kid was waiting for something similar at a house near them. The neighbor a block away had the garage open, but since it was “cold” (low 50s here in Central Texas), they were cooking their oil-fried turkey right at the opening to the garage. To compound the potential disaster, they had two vehicles in the driveway maybe 3-4’ away.
Investigate for insurance fraud.
After all the pre-Thanksgiving tips and videos, and after all the stories from past Thanksgivings where homes were destroyed due to frying turkeys too close to the home, idiots STILL do this!
Proof that money can’t buy you common sense.
“In addition to the gigantic flames ripping through the home, first responders hit a major setback when water flow stopped for ‘several minutes’ after a ‘vehicle drove over the water supply hose,’ damaging it.”
More than one idiot contributed to this homeowner’s disaster.
Even I know that you don't use the fryer in the garage, and I have never even owned one. It's probably printed on the warning message that comes with the fryer.
Insurance payout attempt?
Every years there’s warnings “don’t do this”.
Maybe he’s looking for an insurance payout?
Needs to be investigated, see if there’s any insurance coverage increases recently.

I’m guessing the Weston, CT Volunteer Fire Department is not used to or equipped properly to put out cooking oil fires, or fires of any kind. Yikes.
