Woman Killed by Her Own Dog Before It Turns on Officers
Western Journal ^ | November 21, 2024 | Ole Braatelien

A dog mauled its owner to death at her home in Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday before attacking police, NBC10 Boston reported.

Police identified the woman as 73-year-old Jeriline Brady-McGinnis.

Her husband was also badly injured during the attack, but is expected to survive.

Civil rights leader Jean McGuire, the couple’s landlord, lives above their apartment.

“She’s a wonderful person,” McGuire said about Brady-McGinnis. “She was generous and kind, always thinking of other people … We all miss Jeri. You don’t want anything horrible to happen to anybody, anywhere. She was a wonderful mother and a fine person, very respected.”

When police responded to the call that afternoon, they arrived to find the owners badly mauled.

While providing aid, the dog — a pit bull mix named “Deuce” — bit both officers, forcing them to shoot it, The Boston Globe reported.

Does she get a Darwin Award?

No. By definition, the Darwin Award only applies to those who take themselves out of the gene pool. At 73, she was taken out long ago. One of many reasons why most Darwin Award winners are men.

There is someone locally who posts ads for the local area animal shelters highlighting dogs that need to be adopted or they’ll be put down.

On our stations in Phoenix, they raise money to provide homes for dogs who are discriminated against because they "look a certain way". The cowards cannot even come out and say it. I doubt ugly Pugs or Pekineses have a problem finding homes.

But when they were stitching her up she coded. It literally changed her life. She’s now divorced and has a new job and is in therapy. She seems to be doing well.

That's a heck of a lot just from a dog bite.

My wife has two great Danes and they are half time house dogs. I just tolerate them.
If they weren’t so sociable the smaller of the two at 140 pounds could easily overcome most women.
Thankfully they are all bark and no bite.
But they scare the hell out of people that don’t know Great Danes, because they are big!

I absolutely do not like or trust any pit bull, but the only dog that ever bit me was a Labrador. I was about 11 or 12, riding my bicycle home, and the dog came out of its yard and got me on the right hip, just hard enough to break the skin. My dad talked to the dog’s owner, and I never saw that dog running loose again, though they kept it for at least a few years after that. This was in the days when people didn’t sue each other over any little thing.

“...this is an excellent plan for the perfect murder. “

There’s a Columbo episode with a plot like that. It’s not pit bulls, I don’t think. Maybe Dobermans? Can’t remember!

But you’re right, only Lt. Columbo was able to figure it out, anybody else they would have gotten away with it!

“Does she get a Darwin Award?”

This unfortunate woman was a “golden ager” as my dad would say. She’s well past Darwin Award winning eligibility.

“You can’t take all those generations of breeding out of a dog. I know people who have kept pit bulls with no problem, but it’s a terrible gamble and I wouldn’t have one.”

Well stated. I know someone that has a pitbull mix and they have not had any problems ... yet.

All that said there are lots of choices when it comes to dogs. I see no reason to take a chance on a pitbull.

You can’t take all those generations of breeding out of a dog. I know people who have kept pit bulls with no problem, but it’s a terrible gamble and I wouldn’t have one.

They were bred to be attack dogs! I have seen pits that were gentle and loving. They are like a landmine. They can explode with no warning or logic. Once in attack mode the fact it is their owner means nothing. The owner just became prey. They were bred to kill. I like dogs and have three. I would never have a pit nor rottweiler.

Shepherds are great. They can be vicious if trained to be vicious but are not by nature. Shepherds are instinctual protective of their owners.

I once had a Shepherd that differentiated between the necessary protection for me or my wife. If a stranger came up she would position between my wife and the stranger. Once my wife said okay, she would run up to the stranger to be petted. If it was me she would just lay there and look at the stranger. It was like, "You can handle it but if you need help I am here." Once I greeted the stranger with a handshake she would immediately jump up and run to the stranger for petting. I loved that dog now sadly passed.

She became friends with the Fed Ex driver and would jump up in the cab to be petted. One day I discovered a horrified Fed Ex driver in his cab with my dog. It was a different driver and did not know the routine. My dog was whining and confused. I told him to pet the dog and you will be her new friend.

Pit bulls are gentle until they’re not. They should be exterminated except for a few zoo samples.

Friends of mine had a black lab named Daisy.
Sweetest dog in the world - if she KNEW you.
If not, she would bark and growl at you ferociously. Very frightening.

Once, when I showed up early one Friday for dinner and my friends were not home yet,
I found myself in the situation of having to introduce their new mailman
- his first day on the job - to Daisy.

Daisy was barking menacingly and the mailman was terrified.

I told the mailman the dog’s name was Daisy, and to sweetly call her
and then scratch her behind the ears. He did so.

Friends for life they became after that. Daisy was always like that.

Other types of dogs do bite people sometimes. The difference is their bite almost never kills the person.

No argument there. I’ve never heard of a fatal mauling by a Labrador.

I like most dogs, but I’ll steer clear of any pit bull.

You know that she cannot win the Darwin Award when she has given her DNA to progeny.
