When former President Donald J. Trump decided to take a day off the battleground campaign trail in the waning days of the race to hold a rally Sunday at Madison Square Garden, it prompted a question from many political observers: Why?
New York is hardly a battleground state, and New York City is still a Democratic stronghold. So how come Mr. Trump is planning an event in Midtown Manhattan in the final two weeks of his presidential campaign?
Here are five reasons:
He will get to see his name in lights.
Mr. Trump was a performer and reality TV star before he was a political candidate and president. (It is worth recalling that at the Republican National Convention this summer in Milwaukee, Mr. Trump appeared onstage with a Broadway-style light display spelling out T-R-U-M-P.)
For years, Mr. Trump has measured the significance of his rally venues in part by who had appeared there before. And his yardsticks were usually not other politicians, but singers and other celebrities.
“Do you know how many arenas I’ve beaten Elton John’s record?” Mr. Trump once asked Senator Kevin Cramer, Republican of North Dakota, as he prepared to hold an event during his presidency at the Fargodome at North Dakota State University.
And when he appeared at a rally last month at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, Mr. Trump noted proudly that Elvis Presley had played there.

“He will get to see his name in lights.”
This is truly asinine.
Like, Trump needs publicity? There isn’t one person in the world that hasn’t heard of Trump.
The NYT doesn’t know Shinola!
Trump has been convicted in NYC by a Manhattan jury. He wants to show how much support he has in their crooked borough.
I hope they play music by Richard Wagner at the rally, especially from Rienzi. It will drive the Left bonkers.
Maggie Habermann on the other hand is a know-nothing.
Or the Horst Wessel Song, to really make their heads explode.
Ok, maybe that’s not such a great idea.
“In addition, it is written in a 5-year-old’s vocabulary.”
Affirmative, thus enabling a comprehensible interpretation for the majority populace.
That would be a cunning stunt!
While Maggie is a...
Why?
Duh! The answer is obviously to everyone , especially Hillary

NYC is over run with illegals and footing the bill for housing them.
People are not happy.
Help get more like Elise Stefanik from upstate
Its for the popular vote and also to help congressional candidates..He knows New York is NOT in play, I say he loses it by 10 points, but its just how it feels to do an event there how surreal it is and he wants to enjoy this..its after all his last election and God willing he will win!
If Trump we’re motivated by the narcissism and egomania, money grabbing, criminal, obnoxiousness I have been hearing about for lo thesepast eight years, he would do this rally I
On a weekday, tying up traffic, getting all kinds of attention- bad, from haters, good/bad from supporters possibly led to obnoxious mess by his example
But he is doing this on a sunday
He’ll bring commerce to the locals
Hell inconvenience only those savvy and fully aware LIRR riders coming in to Manhattan from a weekend trip to the Island who will know to alter their plans to use Penn Station
That’s really it
I heard it was sold out in three hours
The article is not bad. It is respectful and largely factual. It does not fall for the Jamaican whore’s Hitler bait.
And a couple of quotes from Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. lol
Definitely NOT stunning...
I would assume that he is doing it because he can and will be wildly successful in the iconic liberal city that is the headquarters of The New York Times. That is supposed to be its turf, the goon squad running it are supposed to own New York City.
Its not in play... But, Trump is now running up the score.
This is part of his attempt to take the national popular vote.
Binden won NY by 23 points , Hillary also won it by about 23.
Trump most likely can’t win NY outright, but Harris has been polling up about 13/14 points.
Trump is going in to NYC as part of his victory lap, and to further attempt to run up the score, and take the popular vote.
Unlike the Rove/Bush/Romney/McCain folks, Trump is a fighter and simply winning the White House is not enough for him.. he’s not going to sit back and just go yay I’ve won, he’s driven, now that it obvious he’s won the White House, which I am sure his internals have told him for quite a while now, he is not going to continue to fight hard to run up the score, and do anything and everything he can to win the popular vote.
Dems tend to get the popular vote by large run ups in NYC and CA etc... Well Harris id down 10 from Biden in 2020 and Hillary in 2016.. those 10 points represent between 750,000 to 900,000 votes depending on which turnout model you use.
Given I believe 2024 will be far closer to the 2016 than the 2020 model, that’ nearly 30% of the vote margin Hillary beat him by in 2016 in the popular vote, or about 12% of vote total of Biden’s margin.
Trump would not spend 1 second in deep blue states if he and his team remotely thought he didn’t have the EC locked up.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I believe Trump is going to win handily, and probably outperforming polling by 2-3 percent at the national level, and that sort of margin definitely puts a lot of other states into potential play, NH, MN, VA, ME, maybe even NJ... but I do not believe NY is winnable for him... I would love to be proven wrong.
IF Trump wins NY that means his national lead is likely probably in the 5-7% range... now it could be possible, the polls do have a track record of grossly underestimating his performance.. OVerperforming Polling by about 4 points in 2020 and his national margin was 2 points closer that polls predicted against Clinton as well.
However, do I think the polls are underestimating Trump that badly this time? I believe they will be off, and Trump will almost certainly overperforms as well, but 5-7? Well if Trum p wins the popular vote by that kind of margin, you are just going to see all sorts of other states, fall that no one is even thinking about.
I’d love to see NY flip, if for no other reason than to put a thumb in the eye of the leftist jackasses... but I really really don’t see Trump doing that.
He absolutley will do better in NY than he ever has, but a full flip? While I’d party hearty if it happens, I just don’t see it...
If NY were to flip, truly flip, Trump would be likely close to a 400+ EC or more victory, and while that would be delicious I just don’t see that very likely.
Two reasons:
New York, New York.....
That city owes him more than they could ever repay. That’s his home and the more people wake up and see how he was treated pre POTUS in 2016 and the grief he’s been put through by the Demons since I say he has a good chance. His interaction with some of his worst enemies at that dinner probably had them puking by the end of the evening.....the schmuck, the goobener, the mayor.....he has it all over these people!
