Anyone suffer from gout that is not, shall I say, "chronic" but triggered from either alcohol or specific foods?
If so, do you take a supplement you find works well even when eating those foods?
Cherry supps? Curious to see if there is a consensus here.
Thanks!

Try Grapefruit Juice.
I avoid “rich” cheeses such as Gouda.
I noticed I had a lot fewer flare ups when I stopped taking Prilosec.
I don’t seem to have any issue with red meat - but I suppose we don’t eat it more than once per week. A good steak on the weekend and the occasional burger. But still, no issues there.
Baking Soda is one remedy but if you’re taking heart medication, there’s information out there about not taking two specific heart medications at the same time but instead taking them several hours apart since they affect pH of blood.
@raven6
This one has Chanca Pieda in it. Hmmmmm
Strait up currant juice (cherry juice), 8 oz a day for a week. Apple cider works but you need half a gallon or more a day for a week.
Me, too. I haven't had a gout attack since I started taking it 15 years ago.
Tart Cherry is the go to, from what I understand. My brother takes it for his.
I’ve found that drinking lots of water helps, and that eating salty food makes me thirsty.
Conventional wisdom says that the liver oxidizes purine proteins into uric acid, and that reducing purine intake helps control gout. It does help control my gout. However, drinking lots of water helps my kidneys eliminate the uric acid.
Don’t drink too much and cut down on red meat.
Real cherry juice.
About 8 bucks a qt. I believe.
I have Knudson brand.
Beef is a definite no-no, for me, at least.
I haven’t failed a uric acid test in over a year.
My doctor set me up with a uric acid test every 6 months for me to experiment. After several failed attempts, I found that stuff. I’ve had several random tests since and all where good.
How are the gout attacks now?
I had 2 major flares about 1 year apart within the past couple years. I started taking supplements similar to what was posted above in reply #16 (from Amazon). I haven’t had a flare since I stared taking them. I just ran a half marathon, so the training regimen and some weight loss probably didn’t hurt either.
I was worried the pounding on my feet and ankles might cause a flare (I still drink beer and wine and eat some of the bad stuff...all in relative moderation). But still no flares (fingers crossed)...it is definitely in my genes.
Cherries and citrus bergamot capsule reduce the frequency but it is a long time before you can tell. I tell everyone keep a 6 oz can of pineapple juice close and drain it as soon as you get a flareup. It is immediate.
Bump for later
Pineapple juice. You get immediate relief.
I take Allopurinol. Went from 1 terrible flareup a month to one mild one every 6 months. Don’t believe the vegan cultists that it’s red meat.
~~~~~
I’m not a vegan, but eating non-fish meat worsens my gout. Uric acid is the end product of cellular Krebs cycle oxidation, so there is no way to oxidize uric acid into anything more oxidize-able by cells, or more processable by kidneys.
