I live in Putnam County which is referred to as “upstate” New York. We are just a stone’s throw from Westchester County. When traveling around Putnam I see some Trump signs but very few Harris signs. Sort of makes sense since the county is home to retired cops and mostly middle class families. Now when my travels take me into Westchester which is a pretty affluent area I see many more Harris signs than Trump. Some are rabid supporters with multiple lawn signs and even Trump signs with a circle and bar across it. Why is that? How can you in theory have “made it” but be so stupid as to endorse such a looser? Are they democrat party hacks, do that many people live off government grants, or are they involved in education and have been brainwashed. Help me out here with any ideas why so many supposedly smart people can be so blind.
In Westchester? Rich women who are not bright, and their beta husbands who do what their wives tell them.
Have some multi-millionaire friends in Mamaroneck, Westchester County, New York. He's an Russian-Azeri film-maker in his 60s; she's a (secular) Russian-Jewess in her 40s. Two children. Emigrated (could almost be described as: escaped by the skin of their teeth) from Russia in the early 2000s. Proud Americans and staunchly anti-communist. And yet, they vote a straight Dem. ticket.
My take (which is admittedly based upon some suppositions, since my wife - who attended the prestigious Lomonossov U. in Moscow with the Russian-Jewish wife - and I don't discuss politics with them) is that, though they both had humble beginnings, they are now so wealthy that they think (on a gut level - I'm not talking about the intellectual level) societal frictions (crime stats driven by illegal aliens pouring over our border, etc.) are best dealt with by taking a "top-bottom" approach - i.e., a wise, benevolent govt. knows best what to do, and should be given all the power necessary to do it; a laissez-faire approach is anathema to them, reeking, as it does, of anarchy. They were poor, once, and thus know that poor people are basically honest, hard-working, and in need of a "helping hand." At their present income level, the thought of shelling out $1 million in annual taxes might not really cut into their lifestyle that much. (That someone making only $100,000 per annum might be very acutely aware of the reduced standard of living they enjoy after the "tax bite" escapes them.)
Then there's the social aspect: They "run" with artsy types, and in that milieu, I can imagine that one would be shunned were one to express support for Trump (a lot of them probably secretly do support Trump). To avoid cognitive dissonance - which could otherwise result in severe psychological pain - they subconsciously sublimate any conservative thoughts they might sometimes have.

One word, Gaslighting
Also, many liberals are b.ind to the truth- literally blind to it- they are unable to see the truth because the evil one has blinded them to it, and caused them to seek lies, convincing them that the lies are truth. He is the father of lies, and convinces many to beleive the lies.
Excellent answers to the question. My Democrat friends are rabid. Besides having no sense of humor, they become overwrought when any part of their positions are questioned.
They have Ultimate Truth on their side, as told to them repeatedly by the MSM. They listen to NPR in the car on background and to MSNBC when they watch news. They can repeat the latest calumny endlessly because they’ve heard it endlessly and believe it with the same depth of trust that a religionist will. They would NEVER poison themselves by actually reading or hearing a conservative program. Trump is the Devil and they NEVER let him appear on their screens or, if they do, only with the proper interpretation playing while he’s silenced.
They believe in abortion as a sacred right that probably doesn’t include any mental images of the poor babe. It’s just another mindless regurgitation.
Critical race theory is another pillar of the faith. I’ve seen friends on the edge of mental illness with the guilt they feel for any family member in the past expressing any prejudice, with no excuses for the time period or the culture in which they were living. And THEY feel the need to expiate their relatives’ guilt financially, both now and in leaving the bulk of their fortunes to those organizations in their wills - well beyond what will be left to family.
Another tenet is protection of transgenders. The percentage of my friends who respond to the topic with a description of a trans close relative is absolutely staggering. The brainwashing of the children to find their specialness in taking on such a position puts a black mark on the soul of every teacher and every newscaster who has spread this poison.
In all other parts of their lives, they’re just like normal people because the brainwashing doesn’t affect any other part of their lives. Stay off those topics and they’re just like they were in the past - cheerful, intelligent people who can be counted on in emergencies and to always be there when you need them.
The Democrat party has become an official cult. With all the punishments that any cult will mete out to its followers laid on any member that dares question the smallest article of faith, and benefits that accrue to those that chant those articles and bring in new members to prove the righteousness of their positions to the, as yet, uninitiated.
Cults are terrifying.
I feel like adding a sign saying “Vote so your daughters and granddaughters won't be shredded before born and mutilated after they're born”
I think the thing that’s driving much of the harris vote is TDS.
Leftists hate Trump so much that they’d rather vote for a monkey, as told me by a relative last election cycle.
I try to avoid her, but not always possible due to circumstances beyond my control. But I think this year, is going to be the deal breaker.
Government workers and contractors, federal, state and county. It seems to me that they tend to get "the lion's share"..
Rte 40 or 44?
Nobody in my neck of the woods can afford a million dollar house, buy the public employees have the most job security and best bennies.
Westchester is a hopelessly Democrat suburb. The best NYC suburbs are on LI. Suffolk is Trumpy and I believe Nassau will be this election cycle.
“Democrats are good the very poor and very wealthy - not so much for us in the middle-class.”
That’s how it is in rural PA. Middle class areas are all Trump signs. Rich areas with lake houses and rundown areas with shacks are for Harris.
That’s because they are not going to be taxed higher. The higher taxes are for the middle class, not the wealthy despite what they say.
On one lawn around here there's a full size Trump in a cage. No political signs but they made their statement.
One thing I am seeing is some Harris signs going away.
I have a hard core Democrat/leftist relative who thinks there are Nazis hiding under every bed—”the greatest threat to the country”.
When I asked him where he learned that information he explained it perfectly:
“The news.”
We are talking brainwashing here.
Lobotomy and/or lightning strikes are the only known cure.
We spent yesterday at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and saw lots of Trump flags driving up to the campus. The folks at the tailgate were mostly for Trump, which came up frequently in conversation. Most of those folks live in New England, but there was a sprinkling of Texans and Californians mixed in.
I haven't seen any harris signs till I had to drive to New Palz. YIKES! harris signs practically on every lawn. College town. I didn't see any in Oneonta, another college town.
My neighbor thinks the higher he pays for property taxes, the more his house is worth. When he sells, he'll get the money back. Meanwhile, his mom's house sold at a loss. He uses grant money to fix up his house.
I think the thing that’s driving much of the harris vote is TDS.

America is in an awful place right now where, if the polls are even close to being right, roughly half of the country has a mental psychosis. This is an ominous warning for what’s about to happen when Trump is elected. People are talking about it.

People believe what they are addicted to watching or reading. They repeat like parrots if they watch CNN or FOX. Lots of people hang around with friends who are left-wing fanatics.
Sometimes men are even afraid to oppose their left-wing wives.
There are 2 kinds of liberals. The liar. They know better but seek selfish returns. The ignorant. They believe the liars.
