RSV SHOT -Yes or No for 80+ Husband and Wife?

Posted on 10/19/2024 9:58:07 AM PDT by TNoldman

My Wife and I are in your late 80's. This years when planning to get an annual Flu Shot we were asked to get an RSV also. We did get out Flu Shot yesterday but no RSV was available. Was that a SIGN ?

Would a FReeper(s) with some knowledge contribute to this discussion?

My vote would be to get the RSV vaccine. RSV can be trouble for infants and for the aged. (My grandson almost died from RSV when less than a year old.)

I no longer get the Covid shots, but I do get the flu, RSV, shingles, and pneumonia vaccines. I think that the anti-vax folks cause more harm than good. Most are too young to remember when red measles and polio were a scourge in this country.

My two cents.

Well stated. I remember as a child in the rural Midwest all the grandmothers/mothers would round up the sick kids to have them play together, mumps, measles, chicken pox and those things. FF a half-century and it makes you wonder if that wasn’t the better way. I read today that some kids are getting vaccinated for over 25 things, no wonder many of them are sick and fat.

I had cabgx3 last year, got dress syndrome from a medication for gout, now have asthma and COPD. I had COVID twice, once before the cabg and once last fall both were pretty mild. I used to do computer support for a couple pediatric clinics and got dog sick every year. Pediatrician recommended the flu shot. I got it and haven’t been sick since. I get one every year. Due to the asthma and COPD I got the rsv and pneumonia shots this year. I’m 73. I fly a lot, stay in hotels and frequent casinos and concert venues. So rather than risk some horrible lung issues I get the shots.

I’m struggling with this one too. My daughter almost died of RSV when they were babies.

I can get really sick from it. I’m 62 now, and worry about it.

I think I’m going to wait a few more years to see how it’s working.

I think it’s an MRNA vaccine which makes me suspicious.

My doctor recommends RSV but when I asked his nurse, “Is it like the COVID jab in any way?”...she hemmed and hawed and wouldn’t answer.

I still don’t have it

only reason I will take any drugs or even go see a doctor is for stitches

Same here. Can't sew myself up. Otherwise I'm good, haven't been sick since covid and wasn't very sick with that. Got family in the horse biz, so there's free ivermectin if I ever need it. Don't smoke, drink, overindulge in sugar or carbs. Exercise. Music. Prayer.

And I wouldn't give advice to folks who reached their 80's! They got that far without me. :)

My advice is don’t live in fear.

Start dealing with the realities that we will all pass away.

Get right with God.

The best way to avoid RSV and others is with lifestyle. Good food, age-appropriate exercise, fresh air, clean water, good sleep, stress management.

These all allow the immune system to function at optimal levels. And believe it or not, natural immunity handles most viruses. But when the body is toxic from food chemicals and drugs, poorly fed, out of shape and over stressed, then the virus takes hold as the immune system is weak.

Sick and Fat they are, and I place the blame for that on what people eat, processed, imitation and preprepared everything is really bad for you. Obesity and everyone getting fat started with the push for so called “healthy and Imitation processed foods” some 50 years ago. We eat almost nothing pre-processed or prepared, everything is always fresh and made from scratch for the most part.

I wanted to get it, but I’m too young. The Moderna is mRNA, so I wanted to steer clear of it. There’s a non-mRNA shot made by another company.

I’d say no, I’m early 70s, mom mid 90s. In my opinion, the vaccine is riskier than RSV.

Big Pharma and Big Government have lost my trust.

Your mileage may vary.

Same here. Can't sew myself up.

I bought a staple kit just in case.

At 75 and 68 we aren’t getting them.

I think I still got the flu anyway almost every year that I got a flu shot.

I don’t take them anymore either.

As the government has lied to us regarding how safe Covid vaccines are - why trust them with others?

No, the government has lied to us about EVERYTHING. Wars, the border, the economy etc. They even tried to kill their opponents and lied about that too.

“So I’m thoroughly confused about it. I’ve never met anybody who got that virus”

100% of the population will get RSV at some point. So, yes, you have met people who have had it. It is just one of the many respiratory viruses we all suffer through. Probably was considered a “bad cold” back in the day.
