Meta provides workers with $25 meal vouchers for use at the office..
Meta fired roughly two dozen staffers based in Los Angeles for abusing the company's $25 meal vouchers to purchase non-food household items...
Meta fired the workers last week after the company discovered that the workers were abusing its food credit system by using the funds to buy other household items, ranging from acne pads and wine glasses to laundry detergent.
According to the report, Meta staff are given daily allowances of $20 for breakfast, $25 for lunch and another $25 for dinner — similar perks to what other large tech companies offer workers on top of their typical compensation packages.

Meta staffer, who indicated that they had a salary of about $400,000 at the tech giant, said they had used the $25 meal credits to purchase groceries like toothpaste and tea at the Rite Aid pharmacy.

The staffer said in the post that they admitted to misusing the credits when Meta's human resources department began investigating the practice, and that they were later fired unexpectedly, saying it was "surreal,"

You give a warning and second chance to workers who have been loyal and industrious. Meta is to blame for making these meal vouchers open to abuse, and not monitoring them for years. Or forever? Meta tempted good workers to steal.
Blame workers and blame Meta.
Meta’s mistake was not issuing the funds as a DoorDash or Instacart credit. By my calculation this stipend amounted to an over $18k/year bonus per person. I’m not justifying the abuse, but Meta certainly wasn’t very smart in the way they rolled this out. Someone further up the food chain made a very bad decision.
Meta (Facebook) and Microsoft both consistently rank in the Top 5 USA corporations for employee compensation.
Meta and MSFT stock, or stock options, have recorded huge gains over the last ten years...
800% for MSFT.
Almost 700% for Meta.
Before affirmative action, tattoos, and Cannabis stores we used to rule the world with 3 martini lunches and a steak.
A lot of business used to be conducted at Strip Clubs.
“every single Harris political ad - I block them all but I see them over and over again.”
Even if I were going to vote for Harris this would annoy the piss out of me and make me want to vote for Jill instead.
“A lot of business used to be conducted at Strip Clubs.”
it still is. Especially in the private back rooms.
Were they paying TAXES on that meal subsidy INCOME?
The most I ever made in my working life (retired in 2013)was a little less than $3k a month & no per diem unless I was out of town attending classes. Not sure if that money was included in my taxable income or not.
Servers. These are essentially football fields of refrigeration with server farms inside. Power intensive. Suckerberg is leeching off cheap power in certain parts of our country that have carefully cultivated energy (COAL!) that provides cheaper power. That's why he is also propograting solar and wind to places that don't want it, so he can disguise his carbon footprint to the Davos crowd.
However, this is also why I knew Trump was going to win as far back as Davos -- even those guys know AI & EV are going to require Trump opening the floodgates on cheap, American power, without the rancid, profit-destroying additional cost of greenwashing.
Had a co-worker who had to travel & he had to by an umbrella because of the weather. Company wouldn’t reimburse so the next time he traveled, he put a note that said, “find the umbrella.” There were certain things you could claim without a receipt so he did. Accounting department wasn’t amused.
Where I used to work, they gave you up to $500 when you retired so you could have a nice family event but since alcohol wasn’t allowed, it created a lot of work with receipts and claims. Finally, someone with a brain came up with, let’s just give every person retiring a flat $750 and call it good. No reimbursements, receipts etc.
Never underestimate the greed of a parasite.
SOUNDS LIKE UNREPORTED TAXABLE INCOME TO ME.
PER DIEM ALLOWANCES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FOR EMPLOYEES WHO ARE AWAY FROM HOME.
DOESN’T SOUND AS THO THIS APPLIES HERE
