Zelensky 'tells NATO - let us join, or we'll get NUKES': Ukrainian leader 'issues shock ultimatum - and says his proposal was backed by TRUMP'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly told NATO to let his country join the group or it will get nuclear weapons in a shock ultimatum that was allegedly backed by Donald Trump.

The leader, 46, declared his bombshell proposal at the EU summit in Brussels - stating either NATO quickly accepts Ukraine into its alliance, or it will once again become a nuclear power, reports Bild.

Zelensky had reportedly planned to present what is being dubbed his 'victory plan' to the heads of state and government of the European Union, but instead made the dramatic announcement to stunned reporters on Thursday afternoon.

Speaking to the former American President Donald Trump, 78, some weeks ago, the Ukrainian leader declared: 'Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and then they will be our defense.

'Or we will have to enter into some kind of alliance. Apart from NATO, we do not know of any effective alliances today.'

He said Trump had agreed with his proposal before he made the statement at the summit, insisting that a membership to NATO would provide his country with the ultimate security guarantee to protect it from Russia.

Ukraine should never be allowed to join NATO. It will just inflame tensions with Russia. Would we allow Cuba to house Russian ICBM’s ?

Ukraine should seek neutrality, like Switzerland, it could enjoy the same business arrangement with the EU and also with Russia, with the natural resources in that region its economy would flourish.

This was a manufactured conflict, hundreds of thousands have died for no reason whatsoever.

Ukraine has very technologically advanced people/engineers/scientists.

The knowledge of how to make nuclear weapons is easily available.

Ukraine has enormous incentives to produce nuclear weapons.

Only countries with nuclear weapons have been shown to be respected by the great powers.

If you do not have nukes, you are subject to destruction at the whim of policy changes.

Just ask Kadafi in Libya. Ask the Serbs.

Is destroying Ukraine worth the destruction of Moscow, or even St. Petersburg to Russia/Putin?

Ukraine's existence as a political entity is at stake. Russia existence is not at stake. This makes Ukraine's threat more credible.

Remember, Ukraine had many of the most advanced technological assets in the old Soviet Union.

you are ruining FR with your idiocy. Your posts are pure propaganda and your comments read like they were written by a crap-throwing monkey.

The most dedicated advocates of wasting hundreds of $Billions of taxpayer money to continue the slaughter of Ukrainian and Russian men in an effort to start WWIII have mostly started to fade into obscurity. But a few stubbornly holds on. The following meme would seem to apply:

USA is like Iran sponsering bad things and Uke is our Syria proxy and Russia is pulling an Israel.

I would suggest Russia should just go for a head shot.

Since I currently live on that corruption sponsering farcical snake head I am lookung up for my redemption draweth nigh.

Ukraine gave up the nukes stationed on their soil because we told them to. They were incapable of maintaining them, and the nukes were useless for defense anyway as they did not possess the launch codes.

As Ukraine was the world’s most corrupt country, we feared they would sell off the nuclear material to bad actors to make a “dirty bomb” (a real possibility). For the same reason, we took over their bioweapons labs and cleaned them out, and paid their scientists nice salaries to keep them from defecting to enemy states or terrorist organizations. (Note: Contrary to what some beleve, the “biolabs” operating in Ukraine were not bioweapons labs, but standard infectious disease surveillance labs, same as we operate in many countries around the world.)

Lastly, in reply to your “If you want to keep Ukraine from getting nukes, then give them the support they need.” — what they need are weapon systems we have run out of and more boots on the ground. You want to recruit your children and grandchildren to put on their boots?

The patience of the Russians never ceases to amaze me.

If I were Putin, I would have finished off Ukraine's electric grid a year ago.

We have to remember that the main purpose of the Special Military Operation is to totally destroy the armed forces of The Ukraine.

You are outdoing even yourself today. Ukraine had a lot of nuclear weapons, and the bombers and missiles to deliver them. That's why the USA entered into an agreement with them to disarm.

Trying to create a new history based on lies is something a Russian propagandist would do.

The Daily Mail article left out Zelensky’s proposal to have Ukrainian troops replace many of the US troops assigned to duty in Europe. That would allow the USA to reduce our military spending and let the Europeans have a totally European based NATO.

they did not possess the launch codes

That is a foolish argument. Anyone with physical custody of such a device could re-program the detonator to have a different code.

Many articles posted.

In the fwiw department, the Ukes could have nukes in about 6 months. The U235, the knowledge, chemistry, and machining abilities to do it. Not sure of delivery capacity.

Problem is testing it.

If Japan so chooses to go nuclear, it would take less than six weeks to have a deliverable weapon. They would have to test it.

It would be a good idea if all parties called a ceasefire in place.

With physical possession they could have just replaced the launch module. Remember that there were many Ukrainian scientists and engineers in the Soviet nuclear program.
