The dramatic rise in early voting has led many to think the election might be effectively over days or weeks before Election Day. The data thus far show that won’t be true — and the numbers aren’t comforting for Democrats.
Early voting is nowhere near what some people estimated: 4.2 million Americans have already cast their ballots, per John Couvillon, a Republican political strategist who provides daily updates on early and mail voting.
That sounds like a lot, but it’s a pittance compared with the 158.6 million votes ultimately cast in 2020.
More important, it’s significantly less than this point in 2020: Early voting is down 45%, Couvillon’s numbers show.
The number of early votes will rise substantially in the next two weeks as some states send out their mail ballots and others open in-person early-voting centers. But the share of votes cast early is still likely to be much lower even after this happens.
Virginia, for example, has had in-person early voting since late September. People are coming out, as 459,000 have voted in person as of Oct. 10.
That is down roughly 4%, however, from the same point in 2020.
The bigger news is the significant decline in requests for mail ballots. Those are down by 58% from 2020 in states that don’t send mail ballots to all voters.
The drop is especially steep in the swing states of Georgia and North Carolina, with declines of 84% and 75% respectively.

Arizona proved in 2020 that waiting until Election Day to vote carries huge risks for shenanigans that voters may not be able to overcome. I voted early, in person for several reasons:
1. Ensure I voted my own ballot
A. If someone else had voted in my name, I have time to challenge with proof of who I am and that another person must have impersonated me.
B. Removes potential for someone seeking an absentee ballot in my name
2. Enables the Republican machine to remove me from the list of registered Republicans that they will be focusing their get out the vote effort on - let them call and text and otherwise pester those who haven’t voted yet
3. Enables the Party to know how many have already voted and show the enthusiasm trend.
If early voting trends Republican it can have the added effect of depressing Democrats who will see the writing on the statistical wall and not make an effort to vote in a losing cause, while hopefully encouraging voters who like to vote for the anticipated winner to vote Republican. Flip side is the danger of complacency, but I think most conservatives are so pi$$ed off right now they will surely vote.
100% turnout...in a pig's eye.
I’m not waiting just for election day. Like on the second-to or last day of in-person early voting.
It sure is. They won’t know how many ballots to forge.
This should be reserved for citizens serving the military overseas or for those with a genuine reason for not being available to vote on Election Day itself.
Everybody else should be dragging themselves to the polls on Election Day. It's not that hard.
The democrats will make up for it with the fake late mail in votes.
Ever since the Republicans denied the dead their right to vote, RAT counts have significantly dropped.
‘Splains Obummer ranting to his “brothers”. But I cant help remember how i felt this time in 2020....like no way Trump could lose. A month later I was drunk till March.
I’ve been saying this for a couple weeks now; that Democrats will have a low turn out. Not all of them like Harris and none of them voted for her.

My mail-in ballot will go into a drop box within two hours of when I receive it. No, not the USPS. There is an election drop box at a nearby police station. It gets swept every night.
It's not like I am uncertain about any of the candidates, propositions, or amendments on the ballot. There is no incentive for me to wait.
I am quite certain that my ballot will be counted. The county sends an e-mail acknowledging receipt to every voter who registered for that confirmation. My greatest uncertainty is wondering how many ballots of dead and imaginary people will also be counted.
You are from Colorado? LOL
In this State, the ballots are not opened and tallied until after the election closing time. At least that is how it is supposed to work. That makes it somewhat harder to estimate how many fraudulent ballots will be needed to guarantee a result.
300% "voter turnout" in multiple precincts does make things a little too obvious. Maybe the Democrats are too desperate to care about appearances.
So enjoyed voting in person here in the upstate of SC. In 2020, DH and I were so excited, hopeful that Trump was going to win. In our smaller community (polling place is local methodist church), we were amazed at how crowded and long the line was at 7:20 AM. We brought our folding chairs, coffee mugs, and were thoroughly enjoying the experience. Not this year. Was telling dear Mom today that we are planning to go vote early this time. Praying that Trump wins.
Like I said. I am certain my vote will be counted.
The problem is that up to 584,200 fraudulent ballots may also be counted. Those will all be for Democrats. Hell, my vote might be for the Democrats after the Dominion counting software gets through with the tallies.
I am just going along with this dance number until the tune changes to the next song. You can only work with what you have at the time.
I’m going on Election Day. Straight Republican. As always.
That’s why we need QR Codes on our ballot receipts - so w can see who we voted for. Hopefully one Red State will do this ... and start a trend
I live in Northern Virginia, a place which votes so overwhelmingly democratic it outweighs almost the rest of the state. I voted early this morning. There was a sizable crowd and it was surprising to see that most there were carrying republican sample ballots. The was, of course, a table set up offering Democratic sample ballots, but they were doing little business.
My contacts in Sandoval County, NM tell me Democrat turnout is down over 50% in early voting.
The last Presidential election had the local press reporting these numbers almost daily, when the Democrat turnout was high.
Haven’t heard a thing in the press yet.
Funny that.
If the four major cities in the rust belt states CLOSE ACCESS to Rs to oversee what’s going on and the trucks come in with ballots again while all the news stations tell Americans that the vote will take “days and weeks”...we’ll lose.
So I hope our side is prepared for that this time.
Other than that, we will win, I am confident.
