It’s not your imagination: The ground beneath Southern California has been particularly unsteady as of late, with the region experiencing more moderate-sized earthquakes this year than it has in decades.
What precisely is fueling the sequence of shakers is not entirely clear, and officials warn that prior seismic activity does not necessarily mean more powerful temblors are imminent. But the series of modest shakers have many wondering what is going on.
“Earthquakes pop off around the state, and it’s a little bit like popcorn that they hit — sometimes they bunch up for reasons that we don’t understand,” said Susan Hough, seismologist for the U.S. Geological Survey.
By the count of seismologist Lucy Jones, a Caltech research associate, Southern California has felt 15 independent seismic sequences this year, with at least one magnitude 4 or higher earthquake. That’s the highest annual total in the last 65 years, surpassing the 13 seen in 1988.

God is trying to shake them. I wonder if they’ll listen.
These events indicate there is something changing the geological equilibrium in the region. Could be the weather, could be tectonics, one thing for sure is that the science isn't settled enough to identify the cause(s).
There is plenty to see without going near any of the places or people that you wish to avoid...It’s an amazing and beautiful state - from the ocean to the mountains!
Very credible. We live about 60 miles east of the San Andreas and south of the Salton Sea. By El Centro, there are several geothermal plants along that part of the fault line extending to Mexico. The magma is very close to the surface. Surprising to those who don't live around here.
Must be a lot of lithium buried just east of the fault lines.
Id like for Canada to burn all up in a forest fire. Frickin bonehead, you know Jim lives here so do many freepers and the servers for free republic are here in California
Yes it came free with a heart transplant
How long before some media morons or college professors start making that claim?
Relax... I was being facetious.
I’m sure California will be just fine... But it’s still the center of the lunatic universe, present company excluded of course. The only other state with more loonies per capita??? Maine?
I think the servers are in the cloud now maybe on Uranus.
If the government has weather control which they obviously have had for at least a decade they probably have it for earthquakes or are working on trying to control it. If you think this is conspiracy look at government reports of contracts with researchers on weather control. There are a lot of them out there.
Bring on the big one from the San Andreas and a good tsunami or two and California might get cleaned up
I forgot that Harris learned me that
Maybe Edgar Cayce said it? Or Jeanne Dixon?
Only the ones in the Bible.
Could it be a precursor to the "BIG ONE" finally hitting Southern Calif?
Waiting for the man-made earthquakes crowd, the same contrails and the government controlling the weather believers, to claim someone is causing the earthquakes.
Those two aren’t prophets; they’re satanic.
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. Joel 2:28
Well, perhaps if I knew someone out there to show me around, otherwise it would probably be hit and miss for me. I would be humbled and in awe to stand beneath a giant sequoia, or stand on top of a volcano, visit a vineyard and sample some of their finest. I would also have to drive there from across the country since I hate the hassle of airports and car rental services. So, I read my old National Graphic mags.
