A Florida man, who refused to leave his boat as Hurricane Milton approached the state, was rescued on Wednesday.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor revealed during a press conference that Joseph Malinowski, who is nicknamed “Lieutenant Dan,” had been rescued by the Tampa Police Department and was “now in a shelter,” according to WTSP News.
“The Tampa Police Department, this morning, just saved Lieutenant Dan,” Castor said. “He has been rescued, and he is now in a shelter as well. If we can get Lieutenant Dan to go to a shelter, we can get anybody to do that.”
Lieutenant Dan previously explained in a TikTok with Terrence Concannon, a senior from the University of Tampa, that his boat was “the safest place in the world to be.” When asked to “explain” why he had decided to “stick out a category five” hurricane, and “one of the worst hurricanes in Tampa history” on his sailboat, Lieutenant Dan explained, “My faith in God.” “God told me to come out here and get a boat, I came out here and got a boat. Everything he’s been telling me over the last few days is, I’m doing the right thing. He’s got my back. I’m in good shape. I ain’t sweating. We’re going to ride this one out,” he said.

“Damn you, Gump! My family’s lost men in hurricanes going back before the Revolutionary War and now you’ve ruined the legacy!”
IMO, they should have let him instead of risking their lives.
I saw a clip where he was talking about Noah and his ark, and my first thought was, *Buddy, you don’t have any ark there.*
Psssssttt! Hey Lieutenant Dan. God doesn’t speak outside of His revealed Word: Scripture.
So it was someone else. Care to guess?
Depends on the Captain and the boat. During Hugo many shrimp boat captains took to the water and saved their vessels.
His was a small single masted sailboat.............
How many regulated airlines left planes in central Fla.?
Nice stuffed croc ya got there, buddy.
Worst thing that happened was closing all the mental hospitals. Yes, regulate and watch them, but put away the crazies who are dangerous to themselves and others. I regret that one of my Trekker friends was one of the instigators of that legal garbage. Lovely woman. Liberal, mistaken activist.
As I said, depends on the boat and the captain.
A great book, “Halsey’s Storm,” recounts his fleet in a typhoon. While several vessels were being lost, there was one destroyer captain who rescued many, many sailors in the midst of the storm.
Some captains are a cut above.
I get the guy in the article wasn’t that kind of captain.
Nope. His last post on tik tok said the mayor was full of it. He was riding it out. Last video I saw, his little boat was getting hammered against the seawall.
Oddly a large ship is safer at sea than at anchor in a port in a storm. At sea they can maneuver to best advantage to the direction of the storm. At anchor they are helpless. Relative to a small boat it does not make much difference. It will probably be destroyed at sea and at anchor it will definitely be destroyed. A skilled captain at sea might make it.
While I seldom give "God told me,,," much creedance, where does it say: "God doesn’t speak outside of His revealed Word" in scripture?
rescued
arrested for his own good
almost the same thing /s

Boat is destroyed now I'm sure. I know how to tie off a boat so that a few feet increase in water level won't swamp it by holding it down but that don't work too well for 12 foot surges. A line from the stern of the boat gets tied to the dock near the bow and bow gets tied off to the dock back near the stern. The long criss cross allows for some vertical movement.
If he was smart, he would have sailed South days ago to get out of Milton's path and hope it didn't change course and follow him. Who knows if he actually knows how to sail though. Could strictly be a cheap place to live on the water.
According to X he stayed on the boat, it was not destroyed, and he is okay. Maybe list link will work, maybe not.

God doesn’t speak outside of His revealed Word: Scripture.
This is not true. God will speak in many ways, not just scripture. He has revealed words, dreams can be messages, he literally speak to you.
