Often celebrated as a chameleon for its adaptability depending on terroir and winemaking style, Chardonnay produces some of the most beautiful and coveted wines in the world. However, with this elevated status comes lofty price tags that can be off-putting for many consumers.
Seeking affordable yet overachieving Chardonnay, we reached out to sommeliers. With suggestions for bottles from Burgundy, examples from the Jura, and one “absolutely addictive” Chardonnay that hails from the underappreciated Auvergne region, the experts were in a very French state of mind. And for those seeking bottles beyond France, budget-friendly wines from California, Oregon, Germany and Italy also made appearances in these sommeliers’ recommendations. There’s even a canned Chardonnay that’s an ideal sidekick for a picnic.

They just make it up
Winking Owl Chardonnay $3.99 at Aldis. After the first bottle they all taste good. Can’t beat the price.
No mention of the prize-winning Cuvier Reserve Chateau Bottled Nuit San Wagga Wagga, which is said to have a bouquet like an aborigine’s armpit.
A good fighting wine?
Most of the way through the article they mention “2022 Moreau-Naudet from Chablis”.
Well, I had a Moreau-Naudet Chablis with my family in NYC as a special evening to celebrate being together in 2017, so was probably a 2015 or 2016 vintage, and I loved it, to the point that I search that vineyard out, specifically.
I can’t often find it, but yeah, it’s pretty great. I think a Chablis is my favorite kind of Chardonnay. I have a couple of bottles in my basement, waiting for the right occasion to give them a try.
A fine wine which really opens up the sluices at both ends.
(I love that Monty Python routine. Laughed myself sick when I first heard it way back when.)
Did you go to Minnestoa? Thats where most of them live and why Ilhan Omar keeps getting re-elected. :)
I like Wente.
Wine comes in white?
I buy Yellow Tail Chardonnay from Australia at Safeway. Big tall bottle for $9. If I have friends over for dinner, I buy Chateau San Michelle Chardonnay from California. Costs more for smaller bottle. Friends ooooh and ahhhh.
Chardonnay is all I drink. One 5-oz glass with dinner every night. Enough for me, I’m a very small woman. I. don’t eat pork or beef, so white goes with everything I do eat..
Red wine is nice too and supposedly good for the heart, but it raises my blood pressure. What good is that?
Burgundy. To hell with that oak barrel tannic crap.
Why do women favor white wine?
It doesn’t stain their teeth.
My wife gets a big 1.5 liter bottle from Aldi- not sure if it’s Winking Owl. Her favorite is Woodbridge Buttery Chardonnay, usually available locally for $9.99
I think your comment was meant for a different thread?
I’m guessing you’re talking about Somalians?
The fantastic sommelier scene in John Wick 2 where a special tasting provides just the right items for Wick’s night of entertainment.

Notice my post is perfect....thread said “sommelier” and “best bang for your buck.”
No need for false modesty.
Another advantage, no stains on teeth. Thanks for info, hadn’t thought of that.
I never knew that Chardonnay was from Somalia.
Boone’s Farm is missing from that list.../s
Ahh, I get it now. Went right over my head.
