Counting Down my iTunes Play Count (VANITY) -- Day #26
AC’s iTunes Directory | 10/3/2024 | Alberta's Child

Posted on 10/03/2024 9:19:50 AM PDT by Alberta's Child

Day #26 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the course of several months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so this will probably be done by early November.

And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making contributions for both the 3rd and 4th quarter fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)

Have fun with this, folks!

Pinging to those from the previous threads. I think of this as a 1980s classic, but it was actually released on the Candy-O album in 1979, in very late December 1979.

I'm pretty sure this is also the first song that also shows up on another Freeper's "Top 50" list (SamAdams76).

"And once in a night I dreamed you were there; I canceled my flight from going nowhere."

Let me know if you'd like to be added or removed from the ping list!

Correction: Candy-O was released in June 1979, not December!

You can’t go wrong with those first two Cars albums.

“Time Stand Still” by Rush

Great song that gains more meaning the older you get.

Yes, as you stated, "It's All I Can Do" ranked on my Top 50 as well. As another poster states, you can't go wrong with the first two Cars albums but I'm a fan of them all, including the much maligned "Door To Door" as well as "Panorama".

My #26 song is also in the New Wave vein, and has a connection with cars as well! "Are Friends Electric?" by Gary Numan and the Tubeway Army. This came out a year before his big American hit "Cars" but this was playing on Boston rock stations in the fall of 1979. I think it's a much better effort than "Cars".

Gary Numan & Tubeway Army - Are Friends Electric (1979)

My list so far...
