I don’t know anything first hand about that area, but when we were planning to relocate we got a lot of good info/data from www.City-Data.com regarding many different things.
I’ve never even been to South Carolina much less Greenville but I do know this:
Before you move check out the demographics and the ethnicity of the place you have in mind. Look at poverty levels, at education levels and median incomes. Wikipedia and many other websites have this data for you to consider.
Go there and spend a week and experience all that Greenville has to offer.
Oh. And get input from fellow FReepers!
Depends on your budget. It’s a pleasant enough city with an accessible airport that connects to all the major airports. There is Greenville then there are the surrounding communities.
Greenville Memorial Hospital is one of the best hospitals I’ve ever been in and I’ve been a pharmacist for 37 years. I had a heart attack on the interstate in Greenville coming home from Asheville
The UNC Greenville is a school of massive drunkards, who then graduate to live in and work in Myrtle Beach.
Get way outside and away from Greenville if you have to live in Eastern NC, and not on the coast.
Take time to study the cultural aspects of what you are asking— that is what is being said here.
Western Carolina— the Pirates.
I considered moving to Greenville. Greer seemed very nice. Or Traveller’s Rest. Not expert on either place.
Lockheed Martin has a large plant there - was thinking of relocating there myself.
Personally I would explore the communities of Easley, Seneca, or Landrum. Rural, but commuteable to Greenville.
Greenville used to be real nice. It probably still is.
Was a Republican stronghold. Gradually becoming a liberal hive.
State politicians, all over the country, love to scream PROGRESS from every mountain top. Code for, we want all the “high paying” tech jobs, an industry dominated by the Left so my friends and I can make money on all the land and business deals and move.
Has happened and continues to happen all over the Southeast.
How did NC get so messed up?
I live near Greenville. Just west of Spartanburg actually. You’d love it! It really is quite a conservative area.
I used to drive two hours south from East Tennessee to enjoy the downtown of Greenville on a warm Saturday night...good times. Real good times.
I live SC. Greenville is like Portland Or was before the fall. A very arsty, foody, progressive culture. If you like that kind of thing. I must say Trump has a lot of support up there. It snows in Greenville.

This site tells all the stats for any town you’re looking at.
Greenville is slightly democratic. High crime twice the national average, my sister has a stepson who lives there extremely liberal, but she wanted to move there because she thinks it’s a wonderful town. She ended up moving to Florida.
Great area but way to many people have moved here
Great Area BMW & Michelin are based here. Downtown is great burbs are great. Simpsonville, Greer, & Fountian Inn are nice areas Way too many developments going in Lately... Houses towards the mountains get more expensive. Starting to lose its small-town flavor. Crime is not a major issue lots to do with mountains about 90 minutes away and Charleston about 2.45 away Atlanta to the south sucks but there are some great lakes about 50 miles away on the border with GA. I moved here in 2006 with the automotive industry & decided to stay when I retired.
