My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Greenville, SC or west of that area. Does anyone have any recommendations of areas and neighborhoods we should be looking?
We would like to be in a nice, established area that is close to conveniences. Pretty much a good area to walk our dogs and not too far out in the country - it would be nice to be 10-15 minutes from restaurants, grocery stores and other shopping.
We live on the coast of NC and would like to move inland away from the Hurricane Alley.
Many thanks for any input!
The original poster is asking about Greenville, South Carolina - not North Carolina. Different Greenville.
I used to drive two hours south from East Tennessee to enjoy the downtown of Greenville on a warm Saturday night...good times. Real good times.
I live SC. Greenville is like Portland Or was before the fall. A very arsty, foody, progressive culture. If you like that kind of thing. I must say Trump has a lot of support up there. It snows in Greenville.

This site tells all the stats for any town you’re looking at.
Greenville is slightly democratic. High crime twice the national average, my sister has a stepson who lives there extremely liberal, but she wanted to move there because she thinks it’s a wonderful town. She ended up moving to Florida.
Great area but way to many people have moved here
Bkmk
Great Area BMW & Michelin are based here. Downtown is great burbs are great. Simpsonville, Greer, & Fountian Inn are nice areas Way too many developments going in Lately... Houses towards the mountains get more expensive. Starting to lose its small-town flavor. Crime is not a major issue lots to do with mountains about 90 minutes away and Charleston about 2.45 away Atlanta to the south sucks but there are some great lakes about 50 miles away on the border with GA. I moved here in 2006 with the automotive industry & decided to stay when I retired.
Greenville maybe slightly democratic but the area is very conservative and most of the people live outside Greenville
I think they are referring to Greenville SC not NC.

Avoid greenville city limits
Been here since 1986. Married and raised my children here. Now that kids are adults, we are thinking of getting the heck out! Why? Too many dang ppl moving here and messing it up! A once southern town is being over run by rude yankees and hippies. The roads and infrastructure cant handle it, poor planning. Housing developments sprawl everywhere with no control. County council are a bunch of liberals now that we are fighting this election that want to raise taxes again! Greenville city is run by liberals. Greer is not far behind and TR is hippy haven. Its changed so much even in the last 5 yrs. Traffic is horrible. Our car insurance rates keep going up and its because of the illegals driving. They go 80 mph on Wade Hampton, cut u off. Then slam on breaks, so you hit them. They collect the $. Its a known scam. Wyff use to be decent news, now they are arm of DNC. Shootings deaths every week either in hood in Gvl or Spartanburg. Shall I keep going? I really use to love it here. No more. Btw. Go Tigers!
Same thing is happening in our coastal town. Sick of the yankees (who destroyed their home and move to ours to continue the destruction) and the homeless have taken root. I saw one homeless guy in front of a store whose pants were down below his knees and he didn’t have any underwear on. (I really didn’t need to see his Magnum Pee Eye.)
We want Southern, clean, low crime, Conservative, low taxes and minimal carpetbaggers.
Would you suggest any other place in SC?
Thank you. We have friends on Lake Keowee but it is not priced out of our budget.
It is now priced out of our budget, not ‘not’.
I have a ministry to the homeless.
Greenville has plenty, but since covid, there is zero tolerance for petty crimes, downtown is much improved.
However, there is plenty of them in the woods near Sans Souci, Walmart on white horse road, SPINX gas station on Rutherford road, all towns and beat up hotels along Rte 29, 123, 124, the south east side of 85 in the south side of town called the district.
.
Avoid that frontage road at all costs.
.
The fastest growing business downtown is a microbrewery.
.
Gays come down from Asheville alot.
.
Main street has a ton of restaurants, good food, a AAA red Sox ball team, but several food kitchens with homeless nearby, section 8 drunks at the bus station,
.
Many Hispanics moving in, working class with families, nice trucks.
.
Baptist churches every half mile. Most half closed. Spanish Baptist churches growing.
.
Local factories pay engineers quite well, hourly seems to top out around $18/hrs or so.
.
Gas is under $3 right now.
Maybe Landrum area, Pickens Co. Anderson Co. Powdersville is supposed to be nice. Easley area. We just looking to get out Gvl Co. Also,I hear the Laurens Co area near Fountain Inn and Woodruff is nice.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your knowledge on the area!!!!!
Been in greenville since 2017
