Experts advise keeping cats indoors, following reports of pet injuries (Ithaca-Sanctuary City)

There have been recent reports of pet cats injured, or worse, in the Ithaca area, with animal predation one of the possible causes, and pet welfare experts suggest keeping cats indoors will help keep them safe, from foxes or coyotes or birds of prey, among other risks of harm.

“It’s extremely difficult to tell” what harmed or killed a particular cat without witnessing an incident, says Dr. Bruce Kornreich, the director of the Cornell Feline Health Center and a cardiologist in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He’s skeptical of anecdotal reports that cats have been killed by foxes, which are of similar size to housecats, though coyotes, coy dogs and other canids, and even neighborhood dogs can sometimes attack cats, and birds of prey such as hawks are also a risk.

“The best way to keep cats safe is to keep them indoors as much as possible,” Dr. Kornreich says, acknowledging that it can take time and effort to transition an outdoor or indoor-outdoor cat to live indoors full time, “but it is possible with patience and dedication in most cases.”

“Keeping cats inside or contained to a catio, yard, or harness is absolutely the best practice,” says Melissa Fadden, who has worked extensively in both wildlife and cat worlds, both to protect cats and to protect wildlife from cats. A “catio,” which could be a screened porch or a pet enclosure with easy access from inside the house, gives cats a safe haven for spending time in fresh air, and taking cats outside on a harness offers a them chance to explore with their people close at hand.

Dr. Kornreich says cats need activity and enrichment that mimics their natural instincts, such as things to stalk and climb, so providing these opportunities for indoor cats will help keep these instincts satisfied. Toys they can stalk and chase such as stuffed mice, things they can scratch such as scratching posts, and things they can climb and perch on, like a cat tree, can all be helpful in meeting these needs.

Another possible cause being that Ithaca is a sanctuary city.

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

I tried keeping our cats indoors for fear of coyotes. Eustace got bored and ate piece of chair leg tip and a Lego tire. Two surgeries and thousands of dollars later, I let my kitties out. They are happier, and no health issues.

If you’d have told me 10 years ago the depths the democrats would drag this once wonderful country down to, I never would have believed it.

Sure enough, Ithaca's Catholic (Commie) Charities seems to be bringing in Haitian immigrants:

This past year, ISP staff saw an uptick in the number of non-citizens relocating to Tompkins County who were seeking services. We helped over 75 clients who were recent arrivals from various countries including Ukraine, Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, Venezuela, and El Salvador. Similar to other non-profit programs serving immigrants in their communities, we found ourselves in unchartered grounds on how to best serve clients who were being paroled into the country with little to no extra funding to assist them and many not qualifying for public benefits. While ISP has served immigrants with varying immigration statuses for over a decade, this was the first time we served this many of people in relatively a short amount of time with very complex needs.

Cats here in south central NH are constantly the prey of coyotes and Fischer Cats.

Every once in awhile some newby will post on Facebook or even make pictures/copies of their “lost cat”. Then post them around on telephone poles. Either they do not know or they just do not want to tell their child that Fluffy was eaten.
Fluffy ain’t comin home.

The entire Catholic Church has been co-opted by the poisonous “Catholic Worker” movement to the point we even have a Commie as the Pope.
