Thrift shoppers will need to find a new location to score deals in Seattle, after the company announced that it will be closing two locations due to "escalating theft, safety concerns" as well as "rising rents."
Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington announced the closures Friday in a blog post, saying that the decision came after they were unable to "maintain a secure and sustainable environment for both employees and shoppers."
"The announcement was made as escalating theft, safety concerns, and rising rents have made it increasingly difficult to maintain a secure and sustainable environment for both employees and shoppers," the announcement said.
The two locations — South Lake Union and University District — will officially close Sept. 22.

If you’ve decided to steal, why steal from the Goodwill? With just about as much effort and risk you can steal from Bloomingdale’s or Macy’s.
Goodwill Stores are a fake charity to raise money for the Board Members. Take a look at the salaries of the “family” that controls them in some states.
Yes, you are correct. Why don’t more people get it, especially Seattle residents?
Most are afraid to “rock the boat” so fleeing is easier.
“IIRC, Goodwill is a quasi-scam, and not a charity as much as a revenue-generating enterprise for the founder / owner. That news was years ago, and may not be true now.”
Making money from charitable donations is ok, as long as there is accountability showing that the profits actually go to those that are truly needy, ie the poor. Unfortunately, everything in this nation seemingly has morphed into “a scam”... as the radical left rewards bad behavior, illegals, at the expense of legal, tax-paying citizens...in their usual scheme of buying votes (or future votes)... even while legal citizens get taxed into poverty. Something’s gotta give.
When I saw this headline, my first thought was... looks like those “food deserts” are turning into “civilization deserts”... because once the charity goes, everything else goes with it. I dunno.
We have a good responsible governor and it shows.
I tried to donate some medical equipment to Goodwill but they refused it. They did take part of a recliner but left parts in the truck so whatever. The guy they sent out to the truck didn’t speak English and just stood there staring at me and obviously fresh from the river.
The church and other agencies that used to beg for medical equipment don’t anymore after covid (ever heard of clorox that should be used no matter what) so we ended up taking it all to the dump. A perfectly good electric bed (no plastic covered mattress because there might be a bed bug, ya know), shower stool that wouldn’t fit our tubs, etc. The home health folk said it was easier to rent the items for clients and it wasn’t their problem to see to it clients had equipment after they left care.
You gotta be lower than whale s**t to steal from a charity.
I guess Jack Reacher will just have to scratch Seattle off his list for a visit in his travels since he only gets his clothes from thrift shops.
As the king goes, so goes the populace. Choose you King wisely... :)
“Side note: Anyone else notice how high Goodwill et al prices are post-virus? Talk about price-gouging”
yes, craziness. I have seen a lot of stuff that they are trying to sell some stuff for more than retail.
I see 6 year old tv 42” tv sets for $79 or $55” for $199
LOL
What really annoys me are the people who steal knobs off decent stereo stuff (that they priced way too high in the first place) so they can buy them on $1.99 mondays.
“You gotta be lower than whale s**t to steal from a charity.”
I knew someone who ran a collection agency and they donated their services to the Girl Scouts because the girls mothers would write bad checks to them for the batches of cookies their kids sold.
Obviously the Girl Scouts would not retaliate or kick out the little girls.
This behavior was not uncommon at all which shocked me
Seattle used to be a gem. Democrats destroyed it.

The Goodwills in my SE part of Washington State are safe and secure but overpriced and not really operating as a charity so I favor other thrift outfits both to donate and shop.
Yes, hubby and I moved to Seattle in 1980, just before we were married. At that time you could walk the streets of Seattle at any time of day or night and feel safe. Now, we rarely go there; and, only in the daytime.
BREAK IN’S AT GOODWILL???
MUST BE INVADERS
Thanks for sharing that report.
The really nice side of town? That's a guess.
How delapitated do you need to be to steal from Goodwill? Holy cow.
