The bird was "engorged" after consuming a raccoon, according to wildlife officials Wildlife officials worried that a bald eagle found on the ground near Wilson's Creek National Battlefield in Missouri was injured, but they later discovered the bird was just walking off a hefty meal.

“Even American birds are like this these days?”

It has nothing to do with “American”. It’s just nature and yeah, some animals are gluttons, just like some humans...especially if they’ve skipped meals. If the eagle had been nesting, with eaglets to feed, he would have just taken the rest of the racoon back to the nest.

Animals have always been like this. At least predators have. When they have the food they stuff themselves and then lay around digesting.

They will even kill a bunch more then they could ever eat if it is possible and then go back and just eat the "good parts".

Sea lions for example will catch a salmon, take a couple bites out of the belly toss it and catch another and repeat until they can no longer move.

Imagine some coyote thinking that a walking big bird would be a big catch.

Time for a 2nd meal, birdie!
