Welcome to 13 WORST American Cars From The 1950s, Nobody Wants Back!
The 1950s was a decade known for bold, brutalist architecture and some of the flashiest cars in history. With a booming post-war economy, people were eager to fill their new homes with shiny new possessions.
Automakers competed fiercely to create the most glamorous and eye-catching cars possible. While some cars from this era were stunningly beautiful, others were simply considered hideous.

The Corvair was a nice car. That idiot Ralph Nader ran it off the market. Sad, sad, sad. It was the last attempt to make a sporty compact car for years and years.
As everyone knows, you had to folow the manual specs on tire inflation.

Since I usually paid between $50 and $100 dollars for my cars, I have owned a lot of the very interesting old cars and enjoyed all of them, they didn’t usually last very long by the time I got them, but it was a huge variety.

Cool car, I’ve always like Tuckers, ahead of their time.

Beside fugly as Helen Thomas, lousy brakes and no air conditioning.
Cooling systems that did not work in warm climates.
Anyone remember traveling in the southwest with one or more “Camel” brand water bags hanging in front of the radiator?
Oh yeah, and shiity tires that were prone to blowouts.
I sure do not want anything to do with that junk, even though I was only a passenger, I remember the junk.

center headlight that turned when the steering wheel turned.Personally, I think the third headlight would be a safety issue for oncoming traffic.

Quite a few cars like that, easily explainable of course.

No such thing as too much chrome. And the Olds 98 is extremely roomy and luxurious on the inside, like a Buick Electra. My brother had a 1970 Olds 98. You didn't steer it . . . you aimed it.

My dad professionally restored high end cars. He restored two Tuckers when I was younger, I had the opportunity to ride in both of them. I remember both of them being very fast and handling very well. They were a very advanced car for their day.

I had a car with a rear bumper that looked like that, I thought it was a 1959 Buick with what looked like 155 shells coming from the rear bumper, but I can’t find that model online.

I would gladly take any of those vehicles today. The ‘58 Olds 98 was absolutely gorgeous. Whoever put this list together is not a car lover. A ‘59 Edsel Corsair in good condition goes for over 50k today. Back then cars had style and comfort. You could tell cars apart easily. Today they basically all look the same, imho.

Yes, and the water barrels on the inclines for the radiators and turning on the heater to cool the engine.

Oh, I lived through those days. You could go to the car auction can pick up a car for $50.
The next day a trip to Earl Scheib for a $29.95 paint job, and you were cruisin' in style!
