Study finds bursts of rapid aging at 44, 60

The human body doesnโ€™t age steadily throughout middle age and instead goes through bursts of rapid aging typically at around age 44 and again at 60, according to a new study published Wednesday in the academic journal Nature Aging.

Stanford University researchers tracked age-related changes in more than 135,000 types of molecules and microbes in samples collected every three to six months from more than 100 adults between the ages of 25 and 75 years old.

Researchers gathered more than 5,400 blood, stool, skin nasal swab and oral swabs as part of the study, and as a result were able to track more than 135,000 different kinds of chemical compounds, bacteria and cell parts affected by aging.

Scientists found the abundance of these molecules and microbes did not change steadily over time but rather increased and decreased rapidly around two ages โ€” first around the onset of a personโ€™s 40s and again in their 60s.

I’m hardly ever bored. The house, a couple acres and quite a few interests keep me busy. When I do get bored, I’m not all that pleasant and sort of miserable. Good thing it’s not often, have to keep myself busy.

After for me

About 57. And am in early 70s and still waiting

Up to 57 people mistook me for late 40s. Then it stopped. In early 70s and people mistake me for 61 or so.

The mistakes stopped abruptly.

I’m sure he was. There are some pictures though that show his grey while he was still in office.

You realize that that equates to only 2 quarts of water a day?

Yes.

At 55/56 Iโ€™m worn out

Been there recovered......

Have Iron levels checked...... Iron poor, tired blood.

Have thyroid hormone levels checked

Immediately, begin taking 5,000 units of B 12 daily. It’s at Walmart and not expensive.

I especially recommend the B12. You can try it for a week to see if it helps. It can’t hurt. Look it up.

At 81 i began supplementing daily with B 12 and the blahs, tiredness, lassitude, fog........ gone.

I em not a doctor and did not play one on TV.

Two weeks of listening to Cackles also takes a toll.

Iโ€™m still more active than many 50-year-old men and even the 40-year-old couch potato thatโ€™s glued to the tv all day. [...] Iโ€™m hardly ever bored.

I'll never be bored as long as there are Free Republic postings to nit-pick!

A study based on just “more than 100 adults”? And they narrow it down to two specific years?

Our standards for “research” are abysmal.

Every time I wake up

Used to be the case with me, too - till I hit my 60s. Now, not so often.

I believe the Urban Dictionary refers to it as "morning wood."

I’m sure there will be plenty of that. I’ll contribute now and then. Just have to leave out the lice!. Probably are many who don’t know the meaning of “nit-pick” or “time on my hands” anymore, so there’s some ammo for “nit-picking” right there. Nit-pick and educate!
