SPAM...the food...

Posted on 07/28/2024 11:40:21 PM PDT by Kevin in California

How many of ya'll like SPAM?

Me, love it. But, I have to boil it to bring out all that salt/sodium. Just too damn salty.

For whatever reason, it seems less salty when uncooked.

Thoughts/personal recipes?

Spam and eggs. I stock the lower sodium version of it as emergency rations but eventually need to rotate it out with new stock, and the salt doesn’t bother me.

It’s one of those “Do I Like it? Yes and No!” kinda foods like liver or lamb. With Spam, basic prep is best. Bread, mato, mustand with Spam. It can be straight from the can or fried. X numbervof times per year.

I put it in a pan lined with tinfoil and pop it in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. No muss...no fuss.

Mayo and mustard. Phone buttons are not made for big fingers. Underrepresented.

I love it. Baked, with pineapple like a ham; fried (with a slice of cheese for a hot sandwich; or instead of bacon or sausage with eggs..

But my favorite way, is run it through a meat grinder (or dice it very finely if you don’t have a grinder handy), mix with mayo or salad dressing, a dab of mustard and sweet pickle relish for a cold sandwich spread, (sliced celery and/or chopped onion is also good in it ).

I can eat that twice a day for a week without getting tired of it, although after about a week I need to take a break from it for a month or so.

Spam, cubed small, tossed in angel hair pasta. Add chopped hard boiled eggs, chopped green onions, sautéed mushrooms and zucchini. Add a bit of soy sauce at the end for color.

Been a while. Always fried, often as meat on a plate or better yet, as a sandwich.

I tried to do their commercial - haven’t been too successful

Diced - pan fried (needs to be hotter so quick sear) that way it won’t be too salty

white rice

frozen peas

Teriyaki sauce

One of these days I’ll try again - about 6-7 cans of various brands in the food prepper area

I like it fried with eggs... It is dang salty though, that’s the main drawback.

Spam is good stuff. It's canned pork shoulder. Love it.

Grew up eating spam. Still like it fried with baked beans. It is my comfort food. I know it will probably kill me ,but so far so good.

I was just thinking of those. They released them again recently this year. Last year I bought a few bags, but they smell awful so I won’t be buying any more. The SPAM flavor is a close match though. Right now I’m eating Kentucky Fried Chicken flavored potato child. We’ve got it so good here when it comes to snack and candies.
