FWC investigates incident in Lake Monroe
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was seriously injured after being bitten by an alligator early Sunday in Lake Monroe in Seminole County, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife officers.
The incident happened just before 2 a.m.
According to FWC, the man was swimming in Lake Monroe when the attack happened. He had serious injuries, but the extent of the injuries was not released.
The FWC recommends the following to help prevent any interactions with gators:
Keep a safe distance if you see an alligator. If someone is concerned about an alligator, they should call FWC’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286), and we will dispatch a contracted nuisance alligator trapper to resolve the situation. Keep pets on a leash and away from the water’s edge. Pets often resemble alligators’ natural prey. Swim only in designated swimming areas during daylight hours and without your pet. Alligators are most active between dusk and dawn. Never feed an alligator. It’s illegal and dangerous. When fed, alligators can lose their natural wariness and instead learn to associate people with the availability of food. This can lead to an alligator becoming a nuisance and needing to be removed from the wild. FWC researchers estimated there were 1,274 alligators in Lake Monroe in 2023.
No other information, including the man’s age, has been released.
I live in Florida and live by two rules: 1.) everyone is carrying a gun and 2.) every body of fresh water has a gator.
Darwin was asleep at the wheel.
Definitely ditches and swimming pools.
Had one come through the screen in Oldsmar. About 5 ft. Then, about 15 yrs later one came through the pool screen. This one was 6 ft.
Don’t tell anyone but we ate him.

I live on a lake in Central Florida. There is a big alligator that cruises right off my beach. It was there just hanging out 20 yards or so off the beach this morning. It is 10 ft, maybe more. I am always armed when I let my dogs out and I have to keep a close watch.
Florida-water-gators.
An aligator biting a man isn’t news in Florida. When a man bites an alligator, then THAT is news.
We bite alligators all the time. Usually on a stick.................
He looks well fed..................
And especially in a large body of water like Lake Monroe, which is known to have alligators.
He must’ve been! He was hungry for more!
I too live in Florida. Those are good rules for life in our blessed but sometimes unusual state.

Daddy always said “You gotta be tough, to be dumb!”
Don’t forget patios, parking lots, boulevards, and anywhere else they feel like being.
You have the right information, and should live a long, happy life.
moose bites can be very nasti
We took a boat tour of the area one afternoon. Our guide is also a wildlife dude who helps catch alligators when called. He said one woman had called for help, her dog was missing and she feared he had been eaten. Went to her place and there were a dozen alligators near her house. She wanted them all gone but Florida law only allows him to tag only the presumed guilty one. She asked how they would figure it out. He handed her the flashlight and went into the water. All of the other gators went underwater again and swam away. He went after the one that stayed, caught him, and took him to where they inspect them. Her doggy was inside. He told us that if a gator moves towards a person after loud noises and movements, that the gator has been “fed” and is looking for more.
