Five Guys closes restaurant for good and confirms sad news with taped note to diners – as speculation grows as to why (CT location)

FIVE Guys has abruptly shuttered one of its restaurants but locals say they are not surprised.

The fast-food restaurant in New Milford, Connecticut, shut its doors for good on June 9.

A sign taped to the door of the restaurant over the weekend stated that the business "is permanently closed."

However, officials at Five Guys allegedly told CT Insider that there was no closure news regarding the New Milford location.

Meanwhile, the sign on the door instructed diners to visit another nearby location.

"Sorry for the inconvenience," it read as it directed customers to the Five Guys in Brookfield, which is nine miles away.

The chain has over a dozen locations across the state that customers can still visit.

However, it is not known why the New Milford site has closed its doors, though locals say it is likely due to money.

On a local Facebook group, one resident asked if the closure was true.

Other Facebook users confirmed the closure and reacted to the news in the comments with many saying the same thing about its prices.

"Not such a surprise. Hardly anyone ever in there," one said.

"We love the food, but too pricey for a regular visit. I guess a lot of people felt that way."

"They would have done better with realistic prices," another comment read.

"You can have a sit-down dinner for the price of their fast food," a third said.

"I'm not entirely surprised," one local commented as she recalled being there alone with her family on Saturday night as locals abandoned the diner.

I like In-N-Out because I consider it a bit better than the other fast food place at a similar price point. At the same time, I’m not one of those fans who’ll sit in the drive-thru for 45 minutes for their food. If the drive-thru line is too long and/or it’s too crowded inside, then I don’t really consider it “fast” food and will go elsewhere. Conversely, I know a few people who absolutely hate In-N-Out, and, to a person, their gripe is the same: they hate the fries. Personally, I really like their fresh-cut fries, but I can appreciate the fact that they’re a significantly different sort of fry than the standard frozen fries of McDonald’s, Burger King, Carl’s Jr., Jack in the Box, etc. And some folks just prefer the latter.

Ive had good experiences with all of the 5 guys diners that Ive been too. good fresh fries- no grease, and tasty burgers.

Same experience with Whataburger.

You must have eaten at a counterfeit 5 guys location.

Now theres a local place called hometown hamburgers. Very greasy burgers and so-so fries just like you describe.

5 Guys burgers used to be better - suspect they have reduced the quality of the meat to cut costs. Used to be very good, now just OK, but always pricey. Our local 5 Guys makes the best fries in the world, and 1 regular order is plenty for 2 people. I often get a hot dog instead of the burger, but go mainly for the fries.

We have a new Mexican restaurant in town, so tried it last week. My nachos was a plate of chips, with beef (I hope it was beef) ground so fine it was almost liquid, and drizzled with, and swimming in, liquid cheese instead of shredded jack or Cheddar. It literally looked like a plate of vomit.

Not going back.

We cook all the time here. We do eat out maybe once a month or so. Usually Chinese take out, 50 bucks for 3 of us with leftovers. We make cheeseburgers and home fries every Sat night and watch motocross/Supercross.

If a cheeseburger doesn’t have green Chile on it, don’t talk to me. There’s a ton of hole in the wall places here in NM that produce killer burgers.

Did you send the plate back? I sure would have. I grew up in the restaurant biz and worked in it until I was in my early 20s. Mom was a restaurateur and my step-dad an accomplished chef, high end steak house places. I always send food back if it's not what it's supposed to be and I have no bones about doing it. I know what to expect by the price of the plate and if it doesn't make the grade, back it goes. If they try to argue with me or make me pay I know exactly how to handle them.

"How are the communists allowed to exist in America?"

They are voted into office as democrats, created by government school indoctrinators, or allowed to enter the country through open borders...

As for New Milford, I am thoroughly familiar with the area as it holds about 250 of my in-laws (70% communist) within a 60-mile-diameter area...

$15.05 at an outlying location

That's about right; there is no free lunch and all their costs are up; inflation.

AI:

Five Guys is expensive due to its use of fresh, never-frozen ingredients, which increases costs. The company also adjusts its prices based on the fluctuating costs of its ingredients and aims for higher margins than traditional fast food. Additionally, they offer larger portions and free customizable toppings, contributing to the higher price point

I didn’t send it back. First, the waiter spoke no English and I didn’t want to put in the grueling effort to attempt explaining. Second, I didn’t want to take the chance of someone contaminating anything else I might order.

I learned a lesson. Don’t go back again.

If he can take your order than he can speak, or at least understand English. If I ever get in a spot that I even get an inkling that someone might spoil my food in any way, I will settle for whatever I’ve consumed and get up and leave. I never get rude with any of the waiters, or preparers or restaurant staff. I always calmly and tactfully express why I’m dissatisfied and patiently tell them what they can do to make things right. I rarely ever need to actually leave. Trust me, if it’s a place with any decency at all they will try to do their best to satisfy their customers. Never allow it to go to an argument but if it does, than it’s time to leave.

Band practice night is on Wednesdays, between work and home, so it’s Eat Out Night for me.

Have a rotation of places I go to, mostly non-franchise, except or Freddy’s Steakburgers and Savvy Sliders.

The bill is usually $10 - $15.
