Russia’s ‘Victory Day’ offensive in northern Ukraine has backfired spectacularly
Telegraph UK ^ | 6/5/2024 | David Axe

When a combined force of 40,000 Russian troops launched an assault across Ukraine’s northern border with Russia on May 9 – that’s Victory Day, the day Russians celebrate the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II – observers tried to understand the Russians’ aim.

Was the goal to drive on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city just 25 miles south of the northern border? Was it to capture a string of border settlements in order to push Ukrainian troops, and their artillery, farther from Russia? Was it to convince the Ukrainians that either of the above was the goal – and compel them to shift forces from the east to the north, thus weakening their eastern defenses?

Nearly a month later, it hardly matters anymore. Russia’s Victory Day offensive has failed on all counts. Ukraine can thank the resilience of its weary infantry, the foresight of its leaders, rush shipments of munitions from the United States and, equally, the sheer stupidity and over-confidence of Russia’s own leaders.

The same leaders who promised, before their 2022 wider invasion of Ukraine, that the so-called “special military operation” would end in just three days, with a Russian flag flying over Kyiv. The whole Russian war on Ukraine is stupid. The Victory Day offensive is just more of the same.

If the Russians’ goal was to drive on Kharkiv and capture a major Ukrainian city, they failed within days.

The story is factually correct about 85% of the time, but the propaganda and opinions are quite absurd.

The offensive was a bust, yes. The Russians tactics and equipment suck.

But the defense was very costly, albeit not as costly as to the Russians. Eventually, Russia will win, albeit letting its boys die in a 7:1 ratio. I would assume the Russians have some mad mothers ready to march on Moscow at this point. The term “pyrrhic victory” may soon be replaced with “Ukrainian Victory.

Some statements were just stupid. There are no “pro-Russian” lawmakers in Congress. There are lawmakers who (correctly) think the USAs own borders should be strengthened and otherwise have differing priorities than yet another Eastern European quagmire.

There are no “pro-Russian” lawmakers in Congress.

I think you are mistaken.

There are not as many pro-Russian lawmakers in Congress as there are pro-Chinese lawmakers. China is the country which gains the most from this stupid war. Russia is weakened, the USA is weakened, China gains in military and economic dominance, especially over Russia.

Look at the hundreds of millions of dollars paid to the Bidens.

Realize members of Congress are targets for similar bribes, and particularly, honey traps, extortion and blackmail by foreign agents.

Probably not as many pro-Russian lawmakers in Congress because China has much more money to spread about than Russia does.

May 15, 2024: Ukraine withdraws troops around Kharkiv as Russian offensive gathers pace

May 21, 2024: Thousands flee Russian offensive in Kharkiv region

May 23, 2024: Russia’s latest offensive into Kharkiv Oblast is stretching Ukrainian defenses

So provide us with your sources that state most of what is claimed here is true, and that there has been a 180 reversal in what has been reported in the articles that I posted.

Define what makes one a pro-Russian in your opinion.

“Eventually, Russia will win, albeit letting its boys die in a 7:1 ratio”

The BBC Mediazona joint (generally pro-Ukrainian) project counting Russian casualties has an interesting website: https://en.zona.media/article/2022/05/20/casualties_eng

For the Ukrainian casualties, a tight lid is kept on their losses. The numbers stated by Zelensky a few months ago are pretty much universally acknowledged to be wildly low.

I personally don’t see any reliable evidence that the Russian daily casualties are exceeeding the Ukrainian ones, let alone by a 7:1 margin.

I believe you are wrong until you show how they are grifting as there isn’t any money working with Russia. Our “statesmen” and political class are doing nothing for ideological reasons except for the true believer socialist, Bolshevik’s and green energy types.

Many are deep in China’s “largesse”. Both sides of the uni-party are involved.

Prove me wrong.

If Putin withdraws, ends the war, he is effectively a dead man. The only person in the world who needs the war to go on is Putin. A Russian patriot could end this war with one well aimed shot.

Ah, both the fags-for-Putin and the Ukes, proving once again they are all idiots.

Wow, that is a very impressive comeback for someone who made a claim. I provided 3 articles with contrary evidence that countered your claim, and then asked you:

So provide us with your sources that state most of what is claimed here is true, and that there has been a 180 reversal in what has been reported in the articles that I posted.

That makes me fags-for-Putin? Wrong again. I am neither a fag, nor am I for Putin. I'm for truth. I am for an end to this evil conflict that has taken too many lives needlessly, for it really could have concluded without the drama that has taken place, but this administration wanted a proxy war with Russia. It wasn't about the sanctity of Ukraine's borders or even to help a fledgling nation to become counted among the free nations in the world.

Apparently you couldn't provide proof, so you lash out at me.

Well played MeanWestTexan Bravo:
