The primary purpose of the lawfare against Trump has been to peel away some of his support among Republicans (and independents who lean Republican). Of course they are also doing it to take hundreds of millions of dollars away from Trump and to make his life as miserable as they can.

The Democrats always overplay their hand. Let's see what the public reaction is if Merchan orders a prison sentence for Trump on July 11.
