2024 hurricane season should be busy, NOAA says

With La Nina conditions evolving in the Pacific and near-record warm waters in the Atlantic, scientists expect the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season to be a busy one.

Forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center (CPC), part of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service, release an outlook every year ahead of hurricane season that includes what kind of storm activity they predict between June 1 and Nov. 30.

CPC researchers say there's an 85% chance that this year's hurricane season will be more active than normal, with the potential for 17 to 25 named storms (which boast wind speeds of at least 39 mph, or 63 kph). The outlook also predicts that eight to 13 of those storms will develop into hurricanes (which have winds of at least 74 mph, or 119 kph), with four to seven strengthening to major hurricane status. A major hurricane is anything that reaches at least Category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale — meaning it has sustained winds of at least 111 mph (179 kph). A "typical" hurricane season has 14 named storms with seven hurricanes, three of which are major.

What I was going to say. Yup, they say this every year. Then of course if/when they get it right, the media will blame “climate change” and Trump.

Weather forcasters and sports prognosticators........both great gigs if you can get one......often wrong, nobody remembers it and never held accountable for a damn thing you say.

If Dan Rather said it (42 years ago), it MUST be true:

At least once a week for the past three weeks some new venue, attempting click bait for themselves, comes out with this same the-sky-is-falling report.

Our local “meteorologists” can’t accurately predict this weekends weather!

This year they may well be right. La niña conditions matter. Reduced wind shear allows for greater storm development over the Atlantic. Not a climate change deal at all, just basic meteorology.

The issue will be that the media will blame every hurricane on global warming. They will be lying, but that’s what they do.

If they could tell us when, say within one week, and where, say within 100 miles, that a hurricane will hit then I might start believing them about global warming.

But they can’t. They can’t because they don’t have an understanding of the system. Contrast this to the people who predicted the April 8th solar eclipse. It was spot-on. But the weather people often get it wrong only 1-2 DAYS away.

I don’t doubt that at one time, Florida was in fact, under water.

And I have no doubt that at a future time, 50,000,000 million years or so, Florida will once again be under water.

But it won’t be due to climate change. It’ll be due to geological forces affecting tectonic plates that does it.

But I don’t expect liberals/communists/socialists to understand that scientific fact..

You should have told her that the rise in the sea level happened so slowly that we did not realize we have been living under water for years.

All the major scenic mountain passes out west that do try to be open by memorial day weekend are closed. Way to much snow to plow. Winter storms keep drifting things over. I wonder why there’s no news coverage?

scientists expect the 2018 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 Atlantic hurricane season to be a busy one.

Statistically, sooner or later, they will guess right.

The Atlantic is hotter than normal, which could assist with more hurricanes, but what causes warm Atlantic waters.

the Sun ? Why isn’t the Pacific warmer ?

My guess....numerous unseen, underwater volcanos along fault lines that stretch from Greenland south. they’ve got a good one going there , now.

I’m going to Florida in July, and usually have to keep an eye on the potential hurricanes. Every time they say it’s going to be a lot of hurricanes, I know the weather will be great! They’re always wrong! When they say it’s going to be calm, then I worry!

Luckily, Sports Illustrated performed Woke suicide and is no longer in publication.

Putting a tranny in the swim suit issue (the entire reason SI subscribers pay their subscriptions) turned out to be a bad idea.

Who could have known? /s
