#YucatanShrimpDay

Shrimp lovers shouldn't miss out on a dish like this. While the Yucatán Peninsula is further south on the Gulf of Mexico, this recipe hails from the waters along Florida's coast. The garlic, butter, and special sauce give it a kick that keeps diners coming back for more. Serve it with crusty bread and white wine or an icy cold beer. You can almost imagine the dazzling blue waters of the Gulf and the sea breeze with every bite. And don't forget the large, tender shrimp, too.

HOW TO OBSERVE Yucatan Shrimp Day

Make up a recipe that says summer. Invite friends and family to join you - it's not a celebration if you don't. Add some chilled beverages, and you'll be ready to enjoy some delicious Yucatán shrimp. When you do, be sure to share the occasion using #YucatanShrimpDay on social media. Looking for a recipe to make? Try this delicious recipe from Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille!

Yucatan Shrimp recipe

Here’s a delicious and flavorful Yucatan Shrimp recipe that combines the bold flavors of garlic, lime, and chili peppers with succulent shrimp. This recipe is perfect for a quick and easy dinner or as an appetizer for your next gathering.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pounds raw jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup salted butter, (1 stick)
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 habanero pepper, halved and seeded
1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
3 tablespoons fresh key lime juice
3 tablespoons fresh chopped cilantro
Salt, to taste

Instructions:

Place a large deep skillet over medium heat. Add the butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic, habanero pepper halves, and crushed red pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, but do not overcook (brown) the garlic. 🍲

Add the shrimp to the skillet. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt, stir, and sauté for 3-5 minutes, until the shrimp turn pink and form C’s. (If they shrink into O’s, you’ve overcooked them.) 🍽️

Turn the heat off and stir in the lime juice and cilantro.

Taste, then season with salt as needed. Discard the habanero peppers, unless you can handle intense heat. Serve warm. 🌴

Tips:

Use fresh and high-quality ingredients, especially the shrimp and lime juice, to ensure the best flavor.

Adjust the level of heat to your liking by using more or less habanero pepper.

Serve with a side of warm tortillas, rice, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Last night we were at a Korean BBQ buffet and we cooked up some shrimp there. However, since I couldn’t find any seafood sauce at the sauce stand, I grabbed some Sriracha and that worked out fine.

DIY...from "Food & Wine"

Yucatán Table Sauce

This all-purpose hot sauce is called xnipek, or dog's nose, because it's so spicy it makes your nose as moist as a dog's. It is prepared with two kinds of chiles, including fiery habaneros.

Roast the jalapeños directly over an open flame or under a preheated broiler, turning, until blackened all over. Put the jalapeños in a small bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let stand for 5 minutes. Discard the blackened skins, stems and seeds; cut the jalapeños into thin strips.

In a bowl, mix the jalapeños, scallions, habaneros, cilantro and grapefruit, orange and lime juices; season with salt.

I took my son and girlfriend out for dinner last night. We went to Case Lupe and I had the Camarones Rancheros. It was SO good. It's a great mom & pop Mexican restaurant.

For a second there I thought we had to be super nice to short criminal aliens from the Yucatan.

I will continue to lobby for the deportation of all of them and all the other criminal aliens in the United States of America.
