A Massachusetts man survived what officials are calling a “surprise attack” by two grizzlies on Sunday at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, authorities said.
According to Jeremy Barnum, Grand Teton’s chief of staff, the 35-year-old man, who has not been identified, was in stable condition, the Jackson Hole News & Guide reported.
The man had a “surprise encounter” with two grizzlies in the Signal Mountain Area of the park Sunday afternoon, according to the Cowboy State Daily. According to a news release from the National Park Service, one of the bears attacked the victim, inflicting serious injuries.
“Grand Teton National Park rangers and Teton County Search and Rescue personnel responded to the scene to provide emergency medical care and airlifted the patient via helicopter to an awaiting ambulance where he was transported to St. John’s Hospital,” Barnum said in an email to the Cowboy State Daily.

This will make an awesome bar story 😏
Hard to tell from headlines sometimes whether these things are taking place in cities or in the wilds. Animals rule in all areas.
Did he have a friend?
Who ran faster?........................
Was he wearing his seatbelt?
He walked into the grizzlies’ kitchen and is surprised.
Was he vaccinated?
“Massachusetts man”. Bears gotta eat too.
The story says it was a “surprise attack”. Is it possible to have a non surprise attack. Well Bob it looks love you’ve got get attacked by a Grizzly Bear on your daily planner today.
The big bear bar braggadacio.
Lol
“I can run faster than you”.
Did he have bear spray? It is pushed hard in these parks.
I have read speculation that most humans have a high sodium diet and thus our flesh is “seasoned” by this in a manner that is attractive to apex predators such as bears and Tigers. That this may be part of why Tigers become “man-eaters” and require hunting and killing to make them stop. True?
The problem is that every time he tells it, everyone in the bar will think he’s just blowing BS to try to get laid.
The bears are being coddled into assuming people are harmless.
Hey, Massachusetts Man!

Much like shark attack survivors....I’m sure he’ll have the battle scars to prove it.
Out of curiosity, I looked it up. Evidently you can legally carry a firearm in a national park if you can legally carry one in the state where the park is located.

Two quotes from the link:
“Visitors should not consider firearms as protection from wildlife.”
“ Unless expressly authorized, Federal law prohibits the possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon in NPS facilities. ”
- Folks need to be aware of that second one. You might be legally able to carry in the park, but walk into an information center and you’ve committed a felony.
I’ve never heard that but it certainly sounds plausible.
