National Beer Day is celebrated every year on April 7th. This unofficial holiday was first celebrated in 2009 via social media activity by a man named Justin Smith. Shortly after, a beer drinking app called Untappd created a National Beer Day badge that was awarded to users. And the hashtag has been trending on social media ever since. But why April 7th?

National Beer Day will be celebrated on Sunday, April 7, 2024. New Beer’s Eve is Saturday, April 6, 2024.

April 7th was selected as National Beer Day because it marks the date that the Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect. Prohibition was a big thing from 1920 to 1933, essentially outlawing the production, transportation, and sale of alcohol. However, on March 22, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the new Act into law, legalizing the sale of beer and wine with an alcohol content of up to 3.2% by weight, beginning April 7, 1933.

Brandon can have the transgender day, well hell the backwoods rednecks can have their day also.

I know FDR signed it, but it is history.

I know there are fellow teetotalers on FR who, like myself, formerly appreciated a good beer. I’ll just pass on my opinion that Clausthaler Dry Hopped is actually a good non-alcoholic beverage, and tastes much better than many NA beverages, and a lot better than many mainstream beers (and it’s actually affordable).

I have tried this on your, or some Freeper’s, suggestion. It is good. I also like Lagunitas IPNA, Summit Nialas and Bravus Blood Orange and Raspberry Gose NAs.

I was drinking Heineken Zero until my doctor told me I shouldn’t drink that either. I don’t know why not-it’s not alcohol. Oh well, That’s 9-10 dollars for a six pack that I don’t spend.

Well, it just so happens that April 7th is also my birthday. So, as I tell my wife, my beer drinking is a matter of destiny...

Just before seeing this post, I had finished a Yuengling (the oldest beer company in America still owned and operated by the original family). Now I feel obliged to have another. It's my patriotic duty.
