Food & Drug Administration Set To Zero In On Menthol Cigarette Ban As Businesses Brace For Major Financial Hit

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – As millions of Americans head to their local gas station or store to purchase a new pack of Marlboro’s or Newport’s, they may soon see that their favorite type of cigarettes are no longer available for purchase.

According to an announcement made by the Food & Drug Administration back in 2022, the agency had begun planning to “propose product standards to prohibit menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes and prohibit all characterizing flavors (other than tobacco) in cigars,” due to “menthol being a flavor additive with a minty taste and aroma that reduces the irritation and harshness of smoking,” and now business owners and organizations are beginning to speak out about the possibility of losing large amounts of sales that could lead to workers being laid off.

The National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) estimates that a ban on menthol cigarettes would result in a $2.16 billion drop in revenues for the convenience industry, as the average convenience store sells $160,107 in tobacco products on average annually and $72,285 in non-tobacco miscellaneous sales every year. The ban would also affect some states as a whole, such as North Carolina, which saw over half a billion dollars in economic activity due to tobacco sales alone in 2022. A NACS spokesperson released a statement on the ban to Fox News Digital on Thursday saying, “The proposed ban would have the exact opposite results that proponents have championed. We hope that the FDA is reconsidering its policy in light of the evidence that these types of bans simply don’t work.”

Interesting to note. Wasn’t aware of that, but I have little doubt that anyone in MA that wants them can get them from a neighboring state easy enough, and likely the black market in the area has them readily available.

The nationwide ban will be an interesting exercise in Fascism.

Fentanyl kills tens of thousands of Americans annually.

How many Americans does the menthol in cigarettes kill?

While the do gooders think they are going after a worse cigarette, used in bigger percentages by a “minority” and thus hurting that “minority” - “blacks” - if they had their pulse on the people they’d find the black community is not happy about the Biden’s going after menthol cigarettes.

No problemo. The Mexicans will get them for us and sell them at their little “Street Taco” trucks.

Trying to regulate some behaviors is often not solved or made worse by the manner of the regulations set for that objective.

Case in point is New York State’s legalization of the sale of marijuana for recreational use, and the regulations put in place to implement it.

The regulations are so onerous and wrong headed that illegal retail marijuana shops are now ubiquitous in New York City and far outnumber, many times over, the legal marijuana shops. The whole thing is a mess and a disaster.

Fentanyl kills tens of thousands of Americans annually.

The 'big guy' couldn't care less inasmuch as he gets his 10% and gets to replace Americans thus killed with illegal aliens who are more friendly with autocratic rule by his handlers. A twofer.

Wasn’t one of the George Floyd-like mostly peaceful “martyrs” selling cigarette “loosies” when he was “martyred?”

First, buy a cigarette rolling machine, they’re pretty inexpensive.

For better smokes in any case without the added chemicals, buy the best pipe tobacco you can find. I don’t indulge a lot, it costs me $10 for a 2 month supply.

If you’re jonesing for menthol, IN ANY CASE, get the best pipe tobacco you can find and infuse it sparingly with mint extract, either on a sponge inside a baggie in the bag or tin, or by misting the tobacco very lightly.

OR just pop a mint tea bag into your tobacco jar and let it develop flavor over a few days.

I would not try to use essential oil in any manner. It may be ok but it’s not foolproof.

Commercial cigarettes are just awful and full of extra added toxins, which you get to pay a LOT of taxes for.

Nobody needs that.

The brothers will be most displeased.

I say; after a couple of months tell them we'll bring back menthols if they'll shut up about reparations.

The only thing that should’ve happened to Gardener was to be told to leave. Why did they kill him? Because he was selling untaxed cigarettes! Didn’t he pay the taxes when he bought them? That man should still be alive

It's been my observation that they have already given up menthols in favor of weed.
