The nation became hooked on American Idol when it made its debut on Fox in 2002. The singing competition featured an array of talented entertainers ... as well as a few contestants who definitely could've used some voice lessons. Either way, we fell in love with the winners, from Kelly Clarkson, to Fantasia Barrino, to Carrie Underwood. Even a few of the runner-ups won us over, as well (hello, Clay Aiken!).
But over time, something shady started to happen. The show — which appeared to be so authentic when it first aired — took a weird turn. Suddenly, we weren't entirely sure that the competition wasn't staged and the votes weren't rigged. Why were we so skeptical?
Intel from former contestants and anonymous sources points toward the show being rigged. Along with the show's reboot in 2018, which included a drastically different judging format, it's safe to say that American Idol might be totally fake. Don't believe us? Here are all the reasons why.

Our elections are rigged. Why should we believe that other contests aren’t also fixed? That state, I’ve never watched that show, or others of a similar genre.
There used to be some show where the contestants were stranded on a deserted island, but it was more like a Hotel in California where you can never leave.
Poor Gilligan and Skipper too.
These are not “Reasons Why American Idol Might Be Fake.”
These are examples of evidence that it is fake.
The reason it is fake now is to make it sell better. And probably to a different audience.
I watched a few years at the beginning and enjoyed it. The performances were real and the musicians were amazing, even if the singer wasn’t. Can’t speak to the voting, although it was probably more accurate than our elections.
The reason I stopped watching it was the way they portrayed every singer’s past as tragedy. “They’ve had so much to overcome that it is a miracle they are even here.” Vote out of pity. That was nauseating.
He was correct.
And as majority of the people writing and directing the shows become bubble people they get continually more unreal.
I loved H. Allen Smith’s books. Especially “Low Man on a Totem Pole” and “Life in a Putty Knife Factory”.
It was great with the original judges. It sucks big time now.
I like it because it wasn’t really PC in terms of Simon telling people they suck at it.
Reason I don't watch America Idol.
I don't believe in fake smash hit, top of the charts, number one hit celebrity by cell phone votes in prime time.
From day one I knew the modus operandi was fake.
There were times when I suspected parts of that were fake.
“Never watched the show. Give me Swamp People.”
Spoiler: The ‘gators are in on it.
So that’s why it’s now unwatchable. Stopped watching, but didn’t know why.

I saw Kaley Cuoco (Big Bang Theory) sister Brianna on a show called The Voice in 2013. Brianna was on stage and the camera was filming Kaleys reaction backstage. Her sister still lost in later episodes but it had the feel of a setup and a promotion for her sisters career.
Carrie Underwood went from pretty to very weird looking.
I discovered Glennis Grace before she appeared on AGT.
She had a successful career as a professional and got her start professionally after appearing on a Dutch talent show in 1994 and again in another contest in 2005
But, she was already touring and charting records in Europe well before AGT

Beautiful and remarkable voice
However she is a Whitney Houston mimik.
Yes, she can sing anything but, she is a professional singer well known in Europe

The talent contests are about entertainment...period
I can tell professional singers because of my background and the internet
It’s a put up in many instances and I don’t mind
It’s fun and fun to discuss with friends
I hear many singers and I’m hearing a different way to do the song in my head and have demonstrated to friends after the song ends by reminded and singing approximately what I was hearing as another interpretation
“Go on the show! You could win”
Naw, I can go to any church and hear people as good as me and many better.
I’m fine with Karaoke and the occasional wedding or funeral
I don’t need any money to perform
I do it for the fun and occasionally the honor
at my husbands defunct plant, they had a tv crew come in to search for special minerals/compounds etc that could be salvaged for big money....
they find a tiny amount...but they put it atop a pail of rocks and made it look like a big find....
phoney as hell.
Dang... first the moon landings, then professional wrestling, followed by the World Trade Center. And now American Idol!
I just don’t know where to turn. (cough cough bible cough cough)
I watched it because my lady wanted me to watch it with her. The idea of it being fake never occurred to me. I just wanted to be entertained and some of the acts did exactly that.
They’re all fake with predetermined outcomes just like all the reality shows... Everyone of them.
“Mr Hitchcock said that movies were life with all the boring parts cut out”
I would modify that to read “boring to a mass audience”.
Regarding American Idol and shows like them, why not just have musical variety shows like TV once had plenty of?
